Which is what many drivers were saying Sat. while I rode my bike thru the NE blizzard that dropped 2 ft of snow ay my house. I had to run an important medical errand that couldn,t wait. No hour to dig out the car----just hopped on my mt bk (which I have hung on to almost only JUST for snow) and headed out during the height of the storm. Already a foot of snow down and only the main hi-ways were plowed. So I had to take the lane and make the few cars also out there pass me. Most were very careful and passed slowly and with very good clearance distances. (Except one moron with an SUV who must have had a date with Megan Fox) It was rougher going on the less busy roads which had not been properly plowed. But, I still did the 4 mile round trip in 45 minutes which is less time than it would have taken me just to dig out the car. VIVA LE BICYCLE!

Bikes: Surly Cross Check

I've ridden in snow a few inches deep, but nothing like we had this last weekend. I wonder how deep does it have to be before it is physically impossible to ride?

My wheels bog down and bring me to a halt in about 6-8 inches of wet snow; never checked the powdery stuff. But then, we don't get much of that here.

If you've got one of those, why leave the house?
