I find 2.75 in my pocket everytime I don't take transit and who knows how much more when I don't drive.

I don't stare down at the road when riding so I don't find much money in 50 years plus of riding. I did find a Makita 24v drill laying on the ground still in great shape that some one must of put on top of their vehicle and slid off after awhile. Seen a lot of tools and other stuff but most I just leave because their usually rusted or got damaged either upon hitting the road or being hit by other vehicles, but did recover a Snap-on ratchet. found a dead man once about 30 years ago but I didn't rampage through his pockets looking for cash or jewelry, instead flagged down a car to get a cop, apparently he had a heart attack while jogging. I haven't gotten rich from riding.

I never found any money while riding... or dead people :D I found some tools and lights though, most were in good working order. But... I lost some tools and lights too so I'd probably call it even.

I was riding along US62 in north Arkansas one time and saw several dollars worth of change laying in the road at the entrance to a WalMart. "Wahoo!" I thought to myself, "Free money!" Immediately I made a U-turn to gather up the riches. Fortunately for me, the drivers of Berryville, Arkansas were paying more attention that day than the distracted fool on the bicycle in front of them, so nobody got sprayed across the pavement like a cup of lost change. I gathered up what I could, and decided that it might be bad luck change and I had better not hang onto it, so I stopped at the next store and got a snack with it. I like to think I'm more careful now, but I still stop for change and the rare bill (only twice). I found a gold Bulova wristwatch in fine shape once; made the wife a nice Christmas present.

Aside from roadkill, the only thing interesting I've ever found was an arcade token! I thought it was a quarter when I first spotted it.

I found a $100 bill on the side of the road when I was in high school (1989-ish). My mom insisted that I should turn it in somehow, but my doubts of a)establishing the rightful owner of cash and b)who/where to turn it in prevailed. I used most of the money to buy a Cateye bike computer that was stolen two months later.

Never seen more than a small coin before or since.

I once found a huge cast iron coin. That thing must have weighed 120 lbs. It was very pretty. I would have taken it but then I noticed there was a manhole sized hole next to it in the road, and as luck would have it, the huge coin fit the hole perfectly.

What a strange coincidence! I am betting the screaming voices down in the hole were cheering loudly when you put their rain cover back in place.

A 20, 2 10's and a 5 within 20 feet of each other near the curb on a street near TCU. SPent to buy flowers for the girl I was seeing.

Aother time I spotted a crisp 20 fluttering against a chain-link fence 70 yards away.

Never found any money on the road. I thought I found a 50 euro note last year and stopped to pick it up, but it turned out to be some kind of christian message disguised as a 50 euro note. I guess they drop them on the roads/sidewalks on purpose so people will pick them up because I found another just like it in a different location the following week.

I have lost stuff on the road from not zipping up my trunk bag all the way. I hate that.

I've been in the Marines for little less then 45 years and I can tell you from experience after serving in Korea a year before Armistice, Vietnam, Grenada, Honduras and Iraq1...IT'S NOT COOL TO FIND A DEAD GUY. Somewhere between 40-60.00 as I've found 2 20s and assorted other smaller bills and change. Quarters only, though. Have found many tools, bungee cords and towells over the years. Use the towells as bike rags and the bungees as...well, bungees. :p The tools vary from small screwdrivers to a rubber mallet. Spanners, crescent wrenches, channellocks, pliers have all found their way into my toolbox. Just clean 'em up and use them.

Thanks for that. I wasn't going to say anything, but I was thinking that finding a dead guy would be about the least cool thing I can imagine. There's someone here on the forums that rides along a river in the morning and has spotted multiple bodies floating in it. Ugh.

I've found 3 combination wrenches, a couple of screwdrivers, a johnson bar (breaker bar for 1/2" drive socket set), a 100' tape measure (I'd actually needed one of those and have used it a bunch) a pair of longnose pliers and two pair of slipjoint pliers, and probably some other stuff. There are a lot of contractors who live in my neighborhood, and they go over rough road on my route and shake loose all the tools they left sitting on their trucks.

Mr. freako, Sir, I have offended your memories, and I apologize. I will be more careful in the future in the way I speak. But since you have offered me some fatherly career advice, may I be so bold as to ask some rhetorical questions of you?

Do you really believe it's the same thing we're talking about, for a civilian in a peaceful country to find something unexpected and wildly out of their normal experience, compared with a soldier in the field having to deal with the awful cost of creating or restoring peace and order in the world? Your experiences in the service of our country, at the request of and for the benefit of all of us in our country, are of course what makes it possible for me to be able to see things differently than you do. Please don't begrudge me what you've worked for.

And must you assume my earlier comments were about anything deeper than finding interesting things along the road? I admit it: I ride for recreation, and finding things of all sorts can be quite entertaining. It's like a scary movie, they're not pleasant, but some people like them.

Man, I'd have called the cops for sure - that's got to have caused some damage. Probably wouldn't have gotten to keep the meat though, since that guy certainly belongs to someone. At least the owner could come load it up and butcher it for his own use.

That may not worth much as Road Cash unless Outback Steakhouse buys it, but my goodness, I believe that the largest Road Kill yet. Perhaps another thread for "Road Kill"?
