This is a very personal thing....but I found flat bars killed my wrists with a 5 mile each way commute. I ended up going to english 3 spd type bars.......
sort of like this https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...Handlebar.aspx

but instead of cheap bar ends, get ergonomic bar ends.

I really liked the cane creek ergo (used before I went to the 3 spd style bars)

and a lot of people swear by the ergon

Paints chipped pretty good but like I said earlier it's working so far and I'm unsure if I'm going to put more money into this or wait and get fitted for something down the road. My hands get sore pretty easy so I might put cheap bar ends just to give me some different positions in the short term.

Dude, thats the same bike I used to commute on in Calif, and Hawaii, thousands of miles. Big slicks worked for me. I bought it in 1987 and it got ripeed of out of my shed in 1997. I was totally bummed. That bike held up good. The only thing I ever had to do to it was service the BB a couple of times. Rock on. :-)>
