Thanks for the details. The chainring clearance might be an issue. How did you go about dimpling the chain stay? And what size ring is that -- a 42 or so? It looks like a pretty tight fit even with the dimpled stay, and I'm running 48x18 right now.

I'm not worried about the brake reach. I have a super-long centerpull on my current bike, and I think I also have a single R556 brake lying around as well. And I'll be running fixed, so the rear brake is optional (though I do wonder why they don't just move the brake bridge to a sensible height).

The IRO hub is the same as the Formula hub, right? Looks like this (maybe without the spaces in the flange)?

If so, I had to respace mine when I moved it from my 120mm spaced Gitane to my Cross Check. It was extremely easy, but you have to replace the axle. Finding the right axle was a little tricky because I didn't know what I was looking for. What you need is this:

The only place I could find that had it was Harris Cyclery. I tried to buy it from my LBS but they couldn't even figure out how to order it.

If you bought the 126mm version from IRO, that might work for 130mm, but the 120mm version definitely does not.

Yeah, that looks like my hub. Fortunately for me, Harris is just a couple miles from my house. Though I seem to remember the LBS respacing the hub to 126mm when I bought it, so I may already have the wider axle.

+1 on the Surly Cross-Check (although it doesn't use calipers). Mine has been configured so many ways i lost count. Very versatile and other than the brakes has everything you requested.
