Scattane Roma - Experience or Thought?

I've been thinking about making a change and getting a different daily driver. I only have a three mile one way commute and I'm looking for something with a bit more style than my current Kona. I saw the Scattane Roma when I was in Performance Bike the other day. It's a good looking bike and seems solid, but I can't seem to find any info on it. Does any know anything about them or have any experience with the bike?

I got the step through for my mom and with a rack and grocery panniers it's a great errand bike. I did put a front caliper brake on it. Unfortunately the rear will not take anything but a coaster brake unless you drill out the fender arch or something. But the front caliper and coaster rear is enough for what it is.

Also Masi has the exact same bike. Different color, same frame, same parts. Must have been a sale in Taiwan (China)?

What did it take to install a front caliper brake, also what did it cost? It does look suspiciously similar to a Masi Soulville 7. Of course the Scattane may be a fake brand, but it's less than half the price of the Masi.

Scattante is Performance's "house" brand, which means it's other makers bikes rebadged. Many are Fuji, lower end could be anything.

I can't ever buy one... Look up the definition of "Scat"

Faux Italian - Don't buy from The Borg! Support your LBS and buy something that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't.

The fork is drilled for a caliper so all that I got was an IRD long reach caliper (standard reach would be way too short) and IRD lever. And of course cables and housing. Unfortunately you can't always get these items in singles, especially levers. but I imagine you could do this mod for 50 bucks or so. The rims are not machined but braking is fine. The rim does have a flat sidewall.

I'm (sort of biased) having spent a couple summers working for Performance. Look, I like supporting local businesses as much as anyone, and most of the time do all my shopping at the smallest bike shop in my town. But Performance is really no different than any other chain sporting goods store. It's more or less an REI equivalent, only just bikes. The bikes they sell are certainly not fundamentally different than the big brands sold anywhere else, because 1) most of what they sell IS a big brand(s) and 2) the house brand stuff is is usually Fuji, just like Novaras (and many specializeds) are just Meridas. Clearly you don't seem to understand this, even though I have alread pointed out that the bike in question is exactly the same as this masi, right down to almost all of the parts:

Modern Masi is little more Italian than Scattante, or than a low end Trek is American. Sorry.

The quality of the service depends on the individual location, so I won't even get into that. But there are also good and bad local shops.

Don't know how long it's going on, but performance has 10% off right now - including bikes.
