My son is just getting old enough to where he is really starting to like riding in his trailer. My wife and I thought about commuting together to church last Sunday but didn't end up doing it. Maybe we'll try it this week if the weather is nice enough.

great neighborhood; great blog, but I think you would be happier with a road bike with drop bars. it would be easier and it would take less time. did you ride both kids in one trailer or do you have 2 trailers? why was she pulling the trailer and not you? why not get 2 trailers?

did you eat at church before riding 14 miles home?

I think you might have miscounted. There are three kids and two trailers. At about 2:25 you can see both bikes with their trailers.

I'm on a cross bike pulling the two older kids, wife has comfort bike because it was very important to her that her bike be cute. She loves it. Someday I'll get her on a road bike. We did not eat before leaving for home, in the summer though there are cookout so we will eat before leaving for home.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is any advantage to a commuter bike (like Raleigh's Clubman or Sojourn) over a cyclocross bike other than fenders?

My daughters liked riding in the trailer when they were young, too. I didn't understand why they didn't get bored, but they didn't. One of them told me the bike goes faster than the car. I figure that's because it's lower and it has no suspension, so those factors make it feel faster.

They're too big to fit in now, at ages 21 and 18. Ah, memories. Maybe when I'm old and decrepit, one of them will tow me in a trailer.

I don't think I would want to tow a trailer with road gears and no fenders. 14 miles with a trailer is a nice workout. congratulations, I'm impressed.

It depends on what the road conditions are, I commute on a cross check and can't imagine pulling a trailer up and down all of the hills on my commute. You could probably play with the drive train a little, but the geometry on a cross bike or road bike are not really conducive to pulling a trailer. A touring frame would probably be your best bet if you want to move away from the typical commuter bike.
