YES! I do that!

Not complaining about that, though; it's how I figure out I'm not wearing a helmet, sometimes! When I'm not riding the bike, it often it takes me a while to figure out why I'm doing it.

Considering I work 3rd shift, I tend to eat more bugs :)

Now that must be a good feeling. I get the same thing outside of work...

ItsJustMe 04-05-10 01:11 PM

I also look up and to the left to see behind me, even if I'm just walking around a store.

probably the biggest change is my pace of living. using a bike slows down the pace of living with me. it seems you really can't be in a rush to get somewhere when you are on a bike. it is just not conducive to going fast.

Coworkers that pull out their old bicycle just to commute in a couple of times; to prove that they are also man enough to do it, just plain weird. One guy, the old surfer dude, even made sure he got to work before me, so he could take my regular parking spot.

As to checking the mirror, consider getting an eyeglass mounted mirror (with clear cycling glasses), so you can always have it with you.

Especially if you sometimes go running on a MUP or in the road.

The weirdest thing that happened to me was when I went from being that weird guy who rides his motorcycle in the cold/rain to being that weird guy who rides his bicycle in the cold/rain after I sold the motorcycle.

I look forward to leaving for work.

i think this happens a lot with anything that may be easy to lose.

every now and then i check my pockets for my phone, keys, and wallet. when i was working somewhere where we had different key cards to open doors and use elevators i'd check my side and freak out for a second whenever i didn't feel it hanging where it usually was, even on days where i wasn't working.

According to my 6 year old daughter I now have a "puffy" butt.

Exactly! Plus you know where things/stores are that you would not otherwise see by constantly using the freeway. My wife was quite amazed one time when I told her where the bamboo store was. (happened to be off of a common bike route, that paralleled the freeway.) "There's a store that sells bamboo?" Yup. (not there any more, but I know that too. )

lol that is pretty weird.

I'm no longer self concious about my strange hairstyle as the result of my helmet. My brother calls it the "tri hawk."

SKY-217 04-05-10 06:14 PM

After I started commuting, I got a job at the DMV (that's Department of Motor Vehicles in case you forgot). People seem to think that's weird.

electrik 04-05-10 06:46 PM

When getting back into a car and driving... feels almost surreal at highway speed.

heywood 04-05-10 10:04 PM

All 'good' changes.. lost 60lbs, lowed my blood pressure, way more spare cash..probably changed my whole outlook on life too. Very few things really worry me now <-- guess that's kind of weird since I never would have expected that one. Regret all the money I spent driving allot in my 20's & 30's until I rediscovered the bike.

The only thing I can think of is that my car's battery is flat a lot more, if I forget to drive it somewhere once a month or so to charge it up. And I'm changing my car's oil at only about 2500 miles, because it's been a year since the last change.

I have the same 'problem' here.

duckweed 04-05-10 10:20 PM

I forget where I park my car since I only use it once a week...

Same thing for me.

SlimAgainSoon 04-06-10 07:44 AM

I'm never in a hurry when I drive anymore, and I never crack the speed limit.

I've totally checked out of that Darwinian contest of tailgating and getting ahead of the other drivers.

Grim 04-06-10 08:45 AM

My demeanor is much more level. Things that tick me off don't set me off now. Then there is the health things with loosing 30+lb. My blood sugar was borderline for prediabetic. That was one of the biggest things that got me started riding may of 08. Still trying to get the Cardiologist to take me off the blood pressure meds and Statins but he is saying no way with my history (genetic, MI at 37 and no male in my fathers blood line have lived past 53 in 4 generations). I do take half of what I am prescribe and he keeps pointing out how I am on just the right doses now. LOL Saves a buch of cash on the prescriptions.

I was trying to think of something weird... and I have it. I am waaaaaaaaay more jumpy as a passenger driver. It annoys the heck out of my wife.

phillyskyline 04-06-10 12:57 PM

I actually enjoy my commute, and I enjoy exercising.

Sure, I have "F you" moments now and then with inconsiderate/dangerous drivers, but I'll take that every once in a while over a daily subway commute surrounded by rude, smelly people shoving McDonalds in their faces while they yak loudly on cellphones.
