Those are gorgeous bikes. The bamboo racks, the chain guards, the curved wooden fenders are absolutely lovely. I'm in awe! You know how to use your winter with style.

Looking for something the size of a Ostrich bag but more like VO's bag with the goodies pockets and flap that opens away from the rider. http://www.velo-orange.com/bapaandba.html I am looking for it to sit low on the racks like they show the Ostrich in that link. I ride a 25 inch frame so a lot of room on my bike. Wanting to loose the rear rack in the summer and get my battery for my head light out of my bottle holder.

I have been thinking to make my own canvas bags myself. Something along the lines of what you made (to fit a 17" laptop though). Could you post some close up pics of the pannier? especially what you did on the reverse? I assume they are 'racktop' double panniers? If you have some design sketches, please pass those along too if you don't mind. LASTLY, is the leather riveted to the canvas or did you stitch it as well? If you did Rivet it, is there leather on the inside of the bag as well to give it more strength? Sorry for allthe questions...but I am really curious. Cheers |

I had to cut and shape the drop-outs so it fit together like a leggo block. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/001-3.jpg I dont need to tell you that the donner bike was a lot smaller frame size and worked out great for this. Once I had it all fit together I drilled and rivited one side with a small steel rivet. after that, I had to check that the frame was true than check it again!!! When I was happy with everything I rivited the other side and the top up by the seat tube. Ron, your bikes are seriously nice! Have you ever considered selling custom bikes? Your hand-built stuff is way nicer than the stuff Rivendell sells for $$$$. You could cater to bike yuppies everywhere. Just an idea... You have some real talent. I wish I had even a fraction of your artistic skills.

Now I'm blushing. Here's an idea, though. The next time you restore a bike, dress it to the nines with your hand-made creations and take some pictures. Post said bike on various craigslists or ebay and offer to ship it anywhere. See what kind of offers you get. I think there's a sizable market for hand-crafted bikes, especially outside of your area. It's basically the market Rivendell and other niche bike makers hope to fill, and I'm sure there's room for a unique artist like yourself to fit in. If you ever do this, post the link on BF. I might want to bid on it myself!
