Looking for something the size of a Ostrich bag but more like VO's bag with the goodies pockets and flap that opens away from the rider. http://www.velo-orange.com/bapaandba.html I am looking for it to sit low on the racks like they show the Ostrich in that link. I ride a 25 inch frame so a lot of room on my bike. Wanting to loose the rear rack in the summer and get my battery for my head light out of my bottle holder.
I'll get a Nitto M12 or VO Randonneu rack and a Decaleur when I have the cash to hang it on. http://www.velo-orange.com/racks.html http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1245285220 |
m'Ron,
I have been thinking to make my own canvas bags myself. Something along the lines of what you made (to fit a 17" laptop though). Could you post some close up pics of the pannier? especially what you did on the reverse? I assume they are 'racktop' double panniers? If you have some design sketches, please pass those along too if you don't mind. LASTLY, is the leather riveted to the canvas or did you stitch it as well? If you did Rivet it, is there leather on the inside of the bag as well to give it more strength? Sorry for allthe questions...but I am really curious. Cheers |

This is a photo of the back of one of my bags (WoW, I say of allot) and I would love to help you, ron. LASTLY, is the leather riveted to the canvas or did you stitch it as well? do you think i could get some shots of the back to see what you did? Im actively looking for a decnt steel MTB frame for a summer project Aaron the top of the added\new stays had to be extended so I used a part of the donner bike top tube and re-shaped it to fit bet the original stays like here. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/003-1.jpg Next the chainstays on the donner bike are huge and fit over the original stays. I had to cut and shape the drop-outs so it fit together like a leggo block. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/001-3.jpg I dont need to tell you that the donner bike was a lot smaller frame size and worked out great for this. Once I had it all fit together I drilled and rivited one side with a small steel rivet. after that, I had to check that the frame was true than check it again!!! When I was happy with everything I rivited the other side and the top up by the seat tube. Perfect' and ready to weld, grind smooth and paint (I used RustOleum and so sorry for my bad spelling). http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/002-2.jpg |

Ron, your bikes are seriously nice! Have you ever considered selling custom bikes? Your hand-built stuff is way nicer than the stuff Rivendell sells for $$$$. You could cater to bike yuppies everywhere. Just an idea... You have some real talent. I wish I had even a fraction of your artistic skills.

Now I'm blushing. Here's an idea, though. The next time you restore a bike, dress it to the nines with your hand-made creations and take some pictures. Post said bike on various craigslists or ebay and offer to ship it anywhere. See what kind of offers you get. I think there's a sizable market for hand-crafted bikes, especially outside of your area. It's basically the market Rivendell and other niche bike makers hope to fill, and I'm sure there's room for a unique artist like yourself to fit in. If you ever do this, post the link on BF. I might want to bid on it myself!

You are very creative.
I really liked the chain guard made from wood. Beautiful! |
You know, jeffpoulin has an excellent idea. First of all, he's right: your bikes look that good. (And so do your other creations.) Second of all, he may also be right that there is a market for your creations, willing to pay some very pretty pennies for them. The hard thing is marketing.

That cargo bike is amazing. Well, they are ALL amazing. I am part owner of a weld/fabrication shop and that is top notch craftsmanship, I must say and I'm the worst critic of shoddy welding/grinding.
Would you mind providing us with some close-ups of how you mounted the chain guard, and a rear/front view? I'm thinking of making one and love your design. I'd just like to see it all in a bit more detail. Thanks Joe |
One more thing... if you do restore another bike and want to sell it but aren't sure what to say or where to say it, post pics of the bike here and describe what you did. I'm sure there are many people on these boards, myself included, who would love to give you ideas for how to market it. Nothing sales-pitchy, of course. Your bikes are works of art. They'll sell themselves to the right audience without any hype.
|
Right, and since you have trouble with spelling, we'll help you with all that.

Thanks Joe http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/001-5.jpg yea I love to have extra spokes on hand. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/003-3.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/004-4.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/007-3.jpg this shot looks so cool without the wood but they say it is good to sport wood and it IS a cargo bike! I had to cover it up:( http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/009-2.jpgbott http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/014-1.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/021-1.jpg the bottom of the chain guard should be curved over so it will be more friendly. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/023-1.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...atrace/025.jpg |
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...atrace/030.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...atrace/032.jpg Here you can see the little pie shaped notches I cut out of the tin to get it rounded over. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...atrace/031.jpg This is a sort of beffore and after of the saddle in twine. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...race/015-1.jpg This part was so much fun to blend! You are looking at the old drop out. |
gorgfeous, those are the shots i wanted to help with my imaginary sketches and plans!!!!
|
I agree with everyone else, these bikes are absolutely gorgeous. You have a wonderful eye and many, many talents.
|
these bikes and accessories are absolutely incredible, dude! I'm a woodworker myself, in the furniture realm, and seeing the things you've made help me realize how much I have to learn (in the most encouraging sense). Wish I still lived in Detroit (well, metro- for me), we could have swapped shop notes or something!! Do you take any "process" photos, or is that Top Secret intel?
