Another first-timer, but one-way

On the one hand I have a commute of about 16 miles, and not many low-traffic routes available. On the other hand I work at a college and my son goes there, and I have the luxury of having him drive my car to school so I can drive back home at night, toting the bike on the rack. Another luxury: going in to work, it's mostly downhill, though not "wheeee" downhill...

So I rode in this morning without incident, though it took me longer than I thought 'cause I'm out of shape for the hills. And we drove home.

Next time, it'll be when I have enough legs and lungs to go both ways. I'm betting it will be late spring / early summer.

This is the route: https://www.mapmyride.com/edit_route?...27120891610019

I'm actually trying to get ready for the NYC 5-boro tour on May 2. This ride was only 1/3 what I need to be able to do on May 2. I've got less than 3 weeks. Think I can do it?

Trek 7100 to which my LBS added a rack, and I added some panniers.

btw you might try ridewithgps.com for really quick, accurate elevation data. it will import your routes from mapmyride.com and doesn't have any ads

That's a great site, mtalinm, thanks! Here's another possible commute for the future "legs and lungs" me: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/57007 .

Mapmyride auto-renews your membership. I might need to mark my calendar for this time next year, to possibly cancel before they charge me. Hope they're not like AOL!

Great idea to ride one way until you feel ready to tackle a round trip. That will give you the confidence and fitness to ride both ways faster than casual weekend or evening rides.
