Finally went clipless!
And my average speed went up 3 MPH and I feel like I did less work!
So glad I went clipless! I didn't even fall over! hahaha
Another thing.. I'm making a small Dymo label that says 'unclip' and sticking it on my left handlebar, as a helpful reminder
That is all

Coming from straight platforms, or from toeclips?
I find no difference between clipless and toe clips. I do see a difference between sneakers and cycling shoes though, so I am sure that some of your speed increase was due to wearing stiff shoes. And I see a difference going from platform to toe clips.

Previously I had some very lame platform pedals that were slippy even when dry. My feet would slip a bit even on shifting...
So now, with my foot attached to the pedal, I'm in much better control, and have a much much smoother pedaling motion

Well, no kidding! I'm betting that toe clips would have done 95% as much for $10 and no special shoes.

I just went clipless myself and it's great. Just general cruising doesn't feel much different, but hills definitely are easier.
Not for me. I tried the toe clips that came with my bike and it was difficult to get in and out with my regular shoes. Flipping the pedal to get your foot in with toe clips is more of a hassle than just sticking your cleat in a clipless pedal. Plus there's the whole circular motion with clipless. If I tried that with toe clips, my foot would just slide out the back.

After using toe clips for a decade or more, and two different pairs on my current bike, moving to clipless is like night and day. There's more power in the clipless system, and it's much easier to use. My speed has definitely gone up ( probably by around 20 % ) at the same heart rate, compared to using toe clips.
