My 70-mile "commute"
I will be traveling without my bike this weekend, so I wanted to get in some extra miles during the week. So I decided to join the Wednesday group ride after riding to work and back. I used to ride after work every Wednesday, but have pretty much cut that out since I started bike commuting. So here's how I got 70 miles on the day:
- 22 miles round trip commute to work
- 20 miles round trip "commute" to the park where the group ride started
- 28 miles riding with the group.
The weather was ideal yesterday, with temps in the 60s and 70s, so that really helped. I might do it again next weekend as I will probably be traveling without my bike over Memorial Day weekend as well.

Now that the daylight is longer the after the commute bike ride starts to become standard fare for many of us. What's nice is the next day's commute makes for a nice "recovery" ride. And the week total mileage can really add up.

I've been doing more ( and longer ) after work rides now that it's getting warmer. Sometimes I'll go by my house and keep riding, or adjust the route to add ten miles ... other times I'll straight home, then head out later, just before twilight, to watch the city light up.
I haven't hit 70 miles yet, though - that's a great midweek ride!
