My morning traffic have not changed much but that's most likely because I'm out early. However, I have noticed an increase in rider taking their bikes on the train and naturally an increase of bicyclist out on the street.

hmmm ... was talking about traffic with some colleagues and they complained about their ride. of course they arrive at 9:00 and I get on the road at 6:00 ... a bit of a difference there ... already been here 3.5 hrs and they are still trickling in and complaining about how tired they are ... good grief

I wish it were lightening up for me, but it seems to only be getting heavier.

That might be from motorist in their summer vacation traveling. I've been seeing lot more of them. Good thing is that they don't hit the road until later in the morning if they are in the city.

Always better in the summer here. Several reasons I theorize.... No School buses or parents rushing/driving their kids to school at the same times which makes the commute times more flexible for people. That makes a big difference. People take a lot more vacations in the summer, and the weather is great so they drive a bit better.

I've noticed that drivers tend to see and be more aware and respectful of bikes a little bit more in the summer. It seems they are at least expecting them, perhaps they have even been on one recently???

Commencement was this past weekend ... what a great time to be on a bike and a lousy time to be in a car! I live across the water from the university, so this of course has something to do with it.

But I've noticed a lot of bad rush hour traffic in the afternoons lately. The freeways jam, and I also live near an entrance/exit, so I get a lot of traffic through my neighborhood trying to get onto and off I-5. Because so much of Seattle is water, Eastlake is the only corridor for a while, and turns into a parking lot. Which means I wind up "lane splitting," or riding between the parked cars in the parking lane, and the parked cars in the travel lane. It always takes me a little less than 20 minutes to bike home, but these are the days when it would be at least 30 to drive.

Honestly, I might enjoy bike commuting more when traffic is horrid. I mean, I always enjoy cycling, but sometimes on top of the fun of being on a bike, I also think about how wonderful it is that I'm not stuck in a cage, wanting to be somewhere else.

I do the 9/6 thing, but that actually lets me avoid the rush. Most cars have made it to work by 8.30, and then I don't really want to hit the road before 6 unless I want to battle the 5/530 traffic. I swear a whistle blows around here and everybody leaves work.

yes. only it's not the traffic amount so much as driver craziness and aggressiveness.

May was freaking nuts with the drivers. flat out freaking nuts. what is their issue? anyway, it's calmed down here, too.
