What kind of locks do you use for commuting?

I like the Sheldon Brown method of bike locking and I'm looking to pick up a good u-lock and cable.

What brands / sizes do you guys like and what method of locking to you use for your commuter that might be left on the street for a while?

Pitlocks on my wheels and seatpost. Single kryptonite u-lock on the frame.

U-lock and a cable. Neither are very fancy, but together they offer enough PIA factor to deter theft. Never had a bike stolen or stripped using this method. Mind you, I'm not riding very expensive bikes and I'm careful where I lock up.

I usually put the U-lock around the rear rim and the seat stays -- it's a tight fit. Then I use the cable lock around both wheels. Now that I'm thinking about it and looking at Sheldon's page, I'm wondering if I'm not providing a good tight lever to break the U-lock with. But my logic is that even if they cut the rim they can't get the frame... no doubt over-kill.

U-lock on the bike rack at work and another at home. A cheap light cable lock on the bike in case I want to make a pit-stop on the way. 12 keys are lighter than 1 decent lock.

My bike parking is inside my controlled-access, video camera'd building, so I just freelock w/ a combination cable lock. It's what I use when I lock up around town for a happy hour or when stopping for groceries or something on the way home.

I do take off my lights and usually my mini pump and underseat bag w/ tools/tubes, etc., too if I'm parking on the street.

What brand and size of u-lock do you guys like? My buddy swears by his OnGuard BullDog mini. I currently have a very old, large, and cheap Bell u-lock that I have no faith in. I want to replace it with something very secure while not completely breaking the bank. Is there a website or anything that reviews these things?

Anyone tried the ABUS BORDO, this: https://www.lockitt.com/Bicycleproducts.htm#Bordo%206000

The Sheldon technique is to use a cable AND a u-lock of some sort. I am looking for the U-Lock...

I park it in my own room and I'm there nearly all day. But I do throw a thick cable and inexpensive masterlock around the frame just in case someone wants to mess with it.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

I've got three locks -- an OnGuard Beast chain, Kryptonite NY Standard U-lock, and Kryptonite Evolution Mini U-lock. I don't use all three (and don't need any at work), but if I take one, it's usually the chain, because all the bike racks might be full -- and, if I'm using my city bike, I carry it by wrapping it around the seatpost and locking it to the rear rack. I've also used both U-locks at once, using the bigger NY to lock the bike to a post then the Mini to lock the unsecured wheel to the frame. The chain by itself can secure both wheels and frame if the wheelbase is short enough, too.

I have the Onguard Mini 7. I had the Beast, but it was to heavy for me to lug around. I like the Mini 7 because its light weight like a mini, but just large enough to lock around most things I need to in my area. Plus I like the bumble bee color pattern as a deterrent.
