Bikes: Schwinn Clear Creek 26" frame

Please help! Newbie looking for an opinion on a Craigslist posting!

Hey guys:

I was wondering if you guys could take a peek at this craigslist posting and let me know if you think it would be wise to make a purchase on one of these bikes as a poor college student. The poster says they need repairs and a few components, but the frames look to be in good shape and the wheels (though probably not the tires/tubes) look like they may just need some truing...

Thanks in advance for your help!

EDIT: It should be noted that I currently have a heavy Schwinn from a big box store in good condition that I could still ride while earning money to repair the new purchase, and hopefully will be able to get a few bucks for it once I do eventually upgrade.

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

I'd pass on the Schwinn. Raleigh is ok, but it's unclear what it needs from the ad. "chain and other items" without mention of the "other"

Would make a decent FG/SS though. IF it fits.

So long as the frames are ok, you can't go too wrong here, especially if you can do the repair work yourself. Post this on the classics forum and you might get some specific feedback on these particular models, or search threads there.

From what I remember the Record is one of Raleigh's low end bikes. Given that it's not in rideable condition, I'm thinking you can find better.

The only thing semi-attractive about that listing is if you had a kid who was interested in road bike racing. Kid sized road bikes aren't common and are expensive. Fixed up it could be used as a starter racing bike though I'm sure the wealthy kids would have much better.
