Testicle pinching help

Hey all. I'm pretty new here, but have been commuting to work for 5 years now, and I am in now way a pro. I bought and built up a 21" Leader 526H Hardtail about 4 years ago. I've noticed that I tend to sometimes get my "boys" caught between my shorts and the saddle, and I do wear cycle shorts. I only have this issue on my return commute, and I've noticed everything seems "looser" in the afternoon. I've tried wearing boxer briefs under my shorts, but it's way too stifling in the summer. Any suggestions?

Get some new bike shorts.
Sounds as if your shorts are too loose.

Fizzaly 08-11-10 10:07 AM

also try adjusting your seat

wayngrove 08-11-10 10:15 AM

Thanks wheels, I will try that, but the ones I have now seem to fit pretty snugly.

I've been up and down with the post several times Fizz, but thanks

Is your saddle Level?

Yes it is level

add a layer.. 'Jock strap' over Lycra shorts, but under your clothing, for more support, or
turn the saddle slightly sideways to make room for that part of your anatomy.

Saddle change..Fizik saddles have a narrow nose ,
though maybe a cutout in the center saddle will feel better..

Maybe I'm misreading your post but it sounds like you are wearing underwear with your cycling shorts? This is a no-no. You should not be wearing boxers or underwear with your shorts.

Try wearing cycling-cut underwear (the stuff you can get at Target) under your bike shorts. If you're going to wear something under the cycling shorts, these work the best, at least for me.

Whew! I thougth your were asking me to pinch your testicles.

This is a common problem with bike shorts, they can slip down your waist and it makes more room at the crotch thus not keeping the two sailors in place.

I suspect that this problem, or slipping, is exasberated, as you mentioned, by being sweatier on your ride home because it is warmer later in the day.

I would recommend bibs. They are more expensive, but you can get a less expensive pair for about $90 (here) or so to try first.

However, expect to pay $150 or more for good quality ones - here

Don't know if it'll help your situation, but I was having similar problem (not quite a pinch, but definitely an uncomfortable interaction between saddle and scrotum), and I nosed the saddle down just slightly. It's not enough that I slip forward, but the change has made riding more comfortable.

This thread is useless without pictures.

I will NOT help you pinch your testicles!! ;-)

I've often wondered about the good ol' fashioned jock strap to help lift the boys up and out of the way? Anyone here wear one without creating an additional problem?

The seat cocked (poor word choice) slightly to the opposite side that the boys like to hang out on is what has worked for me.

"Anyone not wearing a jockstrap for today's ride will be sent to the principal's office!"

The obvious solution to the problem is to get one of those recombinant bicycles.

electrik 08-11-10 07:10 PM

Just get rid of 'em... you won't have to prove your dedication to cycling in any another way!

mtalinm 08-11-10 08:27 PM

had the same problem. easily solved in three steps:

1. reach down there when no one's looking
2. grab the package
3. hoist the boys

pinching should vanish.

This. Make sure everything is in front and up as high as possible. Gross, I know, but it works. Reminds me of that picture shown on the forum here sometimes...well, let's not go there.

snug shorts may make it worse if you don't "hoist the boys"

jockstrap will just give you more itchy stuff. see above post for simpler way to hoist. works best with tight biking shorts.

I suspect you are on to something here. I had a similar problem and am now using just regular(but thin) boxer briefs under a pair of light nylon shorts. Good quality boxer briefs are pretty expensive, but they are great at wicking sweat and the boxer brief style keeps everything I have in place.

Get that particular body part amputated, or get a recumbent.... either way you'll achieve a 0% chance of ever procreating again :D

I got this one after I got done having kids...

OP: It is probably worse for the ride home because it is warmer out and your body temperature is probably also warmer causing your scrotum to be looser and your testicles to hang further down. This is easily remedied by immersing the scrotum in ice water just before putting on your shorts. Two minutes should be sufficient.

noglider 08-12-10 12:33 AM

This happened to me once, while wearing a brand new pair of shorts. As the ride wore on, my scrotum got increasingly itchy. I couldn't figure it out. When I got home, I figured it out. The padding in the shorts was too thick and created a crease. The crease pinched my scrotum. I was as red as a strawberry. And by then, it hurt badly.

I've never worn those shorts since.

Heavy padding in cycling shorts is misguided anyway. How thick is the crotch of your shorts?
