You and the particular conditions of your commuting route may warrant the use of a suspension fork.

Then that's another thing. Yes, I would say that under my conditions a suspension fork is of more use then disadvantage.

I have mountain-biked rocky, technical, central New Mexico on a rigid fork for 20 years and lived to tell about it.

Yeah, you're right about that being the tough part (and the hassle of swapping the fender), but I do swap the race on each fork swap. This is more or less a beater bike, so any lack of precision isn't really noticeable above the overall lack of precision that the whole bike suffers from
