Anyone using winter gear yet?
#26
Still wearing shorts but I've started to wear a base layer under a short sleeve shirt in the morning. A couple of days I've worn the base layer on the way home too. Had to bring some rain gear just in case earlier this week but ended up not needing it.
AlmostGreenGuy: I just wear regular gloves when it starts to get colder. Once we get into winter I'll wear skiing gloves and on real cold days I use my ice fishing mitts.

Couple of 40 degree mornings so far, long sleeve jersey and leg warmers, full finger mtb gloves. I wear regular shorts over my cycling shorts for stops on the way home so the lower half has a little more protection. If it is damp I put on a cycling jacket too.

I wore my windproof gloves on my ride home tonight as well as tights but it wasn't as chilly as I thought. Mostly I was worried about the rain except the rain stopped a few minutes after I left home earlier in the afternoon. Oh well. At least my hands were comfy.

It is supposed to drop to -4C overnight and I am working late tonight... have been wearing the fleece under my shell all week as it has been colder and should be pretty crisp on the way home.
It could even snow tonight...

I could have used some gloves on this evening's ride (I have to resort to "recreational" riding now that I'm 4 blocks from work), and the legs got a bit chilly as well. Wore a rain shell up top with wicking tee underneath and could have (should have) gone with a fleece.
So, not full on winter garb yet, but certainly not summer wear.
We're supposed to get snow this weekend.

I just moved up here and have been biking to school. Fleece under the shell, gloves, and some 180s ear-warmers that I stole from my girlfriend. I believe a toque will be on in short order.

Ha, ha, ha -- that's a good one. We are still stuck with highs in the 90s nearly every day. The morning low this morning was 74, although it did hit 59 briefly on Monday morning. We just set a record for the most 90-degree days in a year (84 so far), with no end in sight, after recording the highest average temperatures on record for the summer (June-Aug). I'm looking forward to some cool weather, if it ever comes.

No snow or black ice yet, so no. Winter bike with studded tyres still hangs on the storage wall.

I categorize my levels of dress as levels 1 to 6 (summer to winter wear). I picked that scheme from the assessment of difficulty of rivers for whitewater rafting and it seems suitable for my range of riding. Currently I'm at level 2, thin long sleeved jersey and tights, and occasionally knit full-fingered gloves.
Apropos of early anticipation of winter riding, I thought this thread was pretty funny, started on July 23, 2009: "How do you handle approaching snow plows?"

-4C/25F this morning. Wore long pants instead of shorts for the first time since spring. Also wore fleece gloves. I'm good in shorts until about 3 or 4 Celsius, but I'm wearing long sleeves below 14C, and a windbreaker below 6C or so.
So, I wore winterish gear this morning, but I'll dress even warmer in colder temps. Hopefully, we're just in a bit of a cold snap and we'll warm up a bit again. This is October weather for us.

Been upper 50s (F) in the morning here, so just arm warmers for the short sleeve jersey. Still wearing shorts with no problem. Going home at night it is in the low 80s, so shorts and short sleeves are still good.

I've worn shorts, a long sleeve shirt, a hat and added socks to the sandals lately as morning temps have been under 60F. PM rides home are still just shorts and sandals with no socks.
It might be awhile before I break out any more than glove liners.

LA doesn't count. You guys have the same weather all the time Sunny and 80 year round right? Your weather men have the easiest job on earth. No hurricanes, little rain, no pesky lake effect snow (hard to predict where it will be exactly). I bet only the weather men in Arizona have it easier... Sunny and hotter enough for Lucifer to feel at home nearly every day of the year.
Enjoy your nice weather. The only upside to our "bad weather" is that we don't get forest fires, and our earth quakes are so minor that 90% never feel them. Also unlike the south Hurricanes don't do much to us. Generally just some heavy rain or snowfall by the time they make it this far north.
Happy riding (hoping that I can keep the snow tires off the bike for an other 30 days),
André

Neoprene booties on the way home night before last.
Way too warm for my shell or rain pants, so just dealt with the wetness in those areas.
I doubt I'd be wearing a hat and gloves if it's barely into the 40s. I can't bear snowboarding gloves 'til it's below freezing. I go with thick gardening gloves below 45 or so.

Well maybe 9.5 months, because some of May was nice.
