Another DC commute (VIDEO)

From Southeast near the ballpark to Capitol Hill, then across town to Dupont Circle. Ride is an '09 Novara Express with flat pedals. I had just purchased a Bern Brentwood commuting helmet, so this is the first run with the helmet cam on it - it's a bit visible simply because it's so large.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

How do you like the new pavement on Independence by the Capitol? Braking on that downhill had been getting stupidly sketchy with all the rippled asphalt...

Actually, I just moved here a few months ago, so I don't have much to compare it to. I did move from West Texas though where most of the roads are paved with chip seal, so everything here has been an improvement.

Oh, it was BAD. Asphalt isn't made for thousands of vehicles braking downhill every day -- over time, it gets pushed into whoop-de-dos like Silly Putty. It had gotten to the point where I would recommend taking the sidewalk just in case you didn't get a green light at the bottom.

Heh, heh. I think he blew by a RED light. It's all good, though. I do that, too. Esp. around the Cap. hill area. Those cap hill cops are watching out for guys in big trucks with suspicious cargo. They're not gonna tag me for running a light. Careful around other parts of DC, though. There was a post here recently of a guy that ran a light early in the am and he got nailed by a $100+ fine.

Good vid. Thanks.

You were just about to go past my building @ 2:11, but you edited that part of independence out. Love your videos, BTW.

Cool. I'll yell out, "Hi Turbineblade!" as well because people already think I'm crazy riding around DC with a video camera strapped to my helmet anyway.

Thanks, I definetely was inspired by your work...I used to spend quite a few weekends in New Orleans (I grew up in Jackson, MS) and have enjoyed your videos immensely.
