Trying to win an argument with a guy like that is a bit like wrestling with a pig in the mud.

After struggling for a while, feeling tired and rather dirty, you realize that the pig is enjoying it.

See? It is cars that get in his way, not bikes.

Just tell him you really hate cars - especially the ones that are driven by drivers that hate bicycles. Cars really get in the way of all the bikes.

There's a lot of truth in that when the freeway gets backed up, all cars head for the city street. So I guess the irony here is that cars create traffic jams for cyclist

If he's paying his share of the rent why argue? Maybe he will come around, maybe he won't. If he is living on mommy and daddy's dime then have them take the car away to teach him that there is more than one mode of transportation.

Buy him a Craigslist bike, then kill him with kindness until he goes on a ride with you. Make him a believer.

Does he have a desk lamp like this:

If so, bend it so the bulb is really close to the base, then bang it down pretty hard. That will break the filament in the bulb.

Do it every 2-3 days.

Here's a poster that graphically illustrates modes of transportation vs. amount of road congestion they create:

Thanks bad riders!

I always love how it becomes "you guys" or "Bike Riders" like we are all one big group consciousness like the borg. With all of these people out riding their bikes now, I keep seeing these guys out there who ride like idiots and purposely ride aggressively. Then a conscientious rider comes along and has to suffer because some jerk has pissed off 10 cars by the time you got there. I hear this all the time and think, "uh...let's see. front rack. rear panniers. double locks. reflective everything. I don't think I'm the one weaving in an out of traffic."

The vista in this poster really reminds me of the road with bikepath on Martha's Vineyard between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Since one has to schedule transport of a car well in advance on the ferry whereas bikes can go at any time, cycles are plentiful on the roads there.

How would you dear to pass a slower vehicle on the left? you should only be taking the rightmost 50cm of street available, and if a vehicle stops or something in front of you your bicycle should become a helicopter and you should fly over the vehicle, not go to the second lane from the right.

(that's how i think that the majority of drivers think)
