You might be surprised.. some times build is genetic and not environmental.. I have known some round guys that lost weight until bones stuck out and they were still round.
I am a Clyde too, and I had a great fast ride home. I went to the grocery store after work and as I was leaving so was a guy in one of those urban golf cart things.. he was a half block ahead and rolling when I started.. six blocks later as I passed him (with my two gallons of milk, six pack of pepsi and cans of beans in the basket) he was rocking back and forth in his seat trying to make his fancy e-car go faster.. lol It was 100 F outside, and maintaining 20mph+ on a naked bike is a huge stretch for me so I was seriously wet when I got home. It felt good though, sitting in the breeze on the front porch enjoying my after ride smoke.. ;) |
cars, potholes, opening doors, tourists...a bad day on the bike is still better than a good day on DC's metro, but sometimes I get fed up with things. While I am on a rant, saw some truly irresponsible cyclists out there.
Ok, but morning ride in was great as usual, beautiful day. |
Good ride in. Ride home was not so good when a ***** in the white mini van tried to curb me. :mad:
I think it was an older drive. Their was a passenger. I saw it coming in my mirror started swing for the mirror to try to knock it off before it got my bars and crashed me. I think I folded it. started beating on the side of the van as it way by and she took off. I was so mad about it that despite my trying to train my self to remember tags I completely forgot. Tried to catch her at the next light but a long hill and I just couldn't get there before the light changed. :twitchy: Pissed me off so bad that as soon as I got home I ordered a Flip Mino and their tripod that will mount to a bike that I was really on the fence about spending money on since they are going under but its pretty high quality for a really good price ($119 shipped on Amazon and $10.50 for the tripod) then anything else its size that would work well on a bike. Three foot law goes in effect tomorrow in GA. Next time I will have video evidence and I will stop and call the police. |
TGIF! 63F/17C and overcast, no wind. Blonde Trail Hottie was walking a dog today, but she looked pretty annoyed with life. :( Reeled in a guy who, I think, had a vision problem that blinded him to any and all traffic control devices except for one red light that would have him killed if he ignored it. But it was okay. I kept reeling him in, over and over, after each stop sign and what-not. :D

Had company on my commute this morning - my wife :) She rode the entire way in except the last 1/2 mile which is on our secure campus, then turned around and rode home - 26 mile round trip for her, which is more than she usually rides at one time. Ride in took an extra 10 to 15 minutes or so, but it was nice to have her along.

Last night I got yelled at from the passenger window of a rusty sports car by some white trash lady: "GET ON THE DAMN SIDEWALK!" The driver sped off and the only reaction I could muster was to give them the peace sign as they pulled away.
I like the peace sign b/c it soothes my itch to flip people off w/o all the nasty repercussions.... Pretty passive-aggressive of me, I know. The ride in this morning was awesome - Construction crew opened up a road, eliminating the need for a 1 mile detour that I have been riding for the past month! |
Pleasant ride to work this AM. Traffic was surprisingly light. Weather was nice, mid 70s, lots of sun, light breeze. Equipment worked flawlessly. Saw more cyclists than usual and the bike rack was fuller than it has been all year.
Had one of those perfect moments of quiet serenity when after I was passed by a truck, I was pushing up a small hill and there was no traffic noise, just me and the bike and the peace of the road. The trees have taken their summer foliage and the sunlight dappled thru the leaves creating a beautiful patten on the asphalt. I envied those who have bike paths and can enjoy this type of quiet, traffic-free ride on a daily basis, but for me, that moment was just about as perfect as a summer commute could be! |
Nice ride in. Warm again - mid 70's. Tonight's heat index is supposed to be around 110 :(

Nice ride in to end the week. Perfect temps this morning in the mid to high 60's and no humidity. Will probably get an early release today from the big boss man so the ride home should be a low traffic ride both on the roads and on the path. Here's wishing a great July 4th weekend to all the BF posters.

It was about 45 F. at my place too, almost cold enough for a long sleeve t-shirt. I almost hit a deer. I was resting from my big hill climb, and admiring the view of the Cascades -- Jefferson and yes, all 3 sisters. I was counting the Sisters when I glided by a deer about 4 feet off to one side, that had just passed in front of me. Wake up Ed!

Decent ride in, around high 60s which was perfect once I got going. A bit more traffic than I expected (on Fridays I usually take more major streets - including one laners each way with a speed limit of 35), but nothing too hairy. Going back the 9 miles or so uphill will be a bit tougher in the high 80s.

A bit chilly in the morning as usual but that'd because I leave the house at 5:30 AM. On my way back, it was good. The sun was out but it wasn't too hot.
EDIT: I'm gonna ask a silly question here since I don't really want to make a thread about it. I got my bike for almost a month now and have a little over 50 miles on it. This morning I notice that I was pedaling a lot harder than before, then I was looking out my tires as I was on the bike I noticed that the back wheel tire wasn't as tight or firm as the front. I checked it out and it was a lot looser than the front tire so I assume it lost a bit of air. I tried pumping as much air as I could with my cheap hand pump that I found in the house, it was from the previous owner. I couldn't get it as tight as the front tire because every time I tried to release the pump from the valve, air starts to let loose. What should I do? I'm totally new at this so I'm not sure if I should get a better air pump where the air doesn't escape if I release it from the valve or change the tube and tire all together. It is still ridable for now. |

Tower pump or floor pump, whatever you call it. Back tire always gets low quicker and more often. The hand pump is to get you back home after a flat. You should be able to get a good pump for about $30.00 or less. After a month you should neeed to air up your tires.

Rest of the week has been good. Went out this morning and participated in a 22 mile 3 Foot celibration ride. The Law went into effect in GA On July 1.

Rare Saturday commute today and an even rarer Sunday commute tomorrow. Lots of runners on the Mt Vernon Trail this morning, many running in packs wearing matching tee-shirts. Must have been some kind of organized running event. In any case I experienced more early morning traffic than I would during the week and got slowed down multiple times having to wait for a chance to pass.
All was well though. I kept reminding myself that in just on week I'll be off on my first overnight bike camping trip, which is one of the few things keeping me sane and happy during this busy week at work. :) |

Tires need to be topped up weekly on most bikes. If you are on a budget and can only afford one pump I'd get something like a Topeak road Morph G. It can easily pump 110psi. I would when funds become available get a floor pump like above recommended.
