It was a warm ride in at 48F (9C), but it did rain overnight, so lots of puddles. It is a bit breezy, but it adds a breath of clean air around the cars.

dwilbur3 12-23-11 09:38 AM

It was COLD (26 F). I know that's warm for some of y'all, but for Sac that's as cold as it gets. I ride thru a small park every morning on my way to work and they were watering so the path was covered with wet ice. I only saw one other cyclist on my way in.

1nterceptor 12-23-11 12:15 PM

From yesterday's commute, upper 50's(F) and cloudy.

Easy Peasy 12-23-11 06:10 PM

Some idiot(s) smashed glass bottles all over a segment of the MUP this morning. Too much for me to clean up. I reported it to the police and the township. Hopefully it'll get cleaned up.

Mark Stone 12-26-11 06:18 PM

What a great ride this morning, pre-sunrise in the desert - 23 degrees and no wind. If ya go out and just stand, it feels mighty cold; but if you've got a good spin on, it warms up fast. Hammer Down! Only three more commuting days in 2011. This was a great year!

mechBgon 12-26-11 09:37 PM

I slacked off on my plan to take the long way to work, but managed to do it on the ride home. 29 miles, probably 2500 feet of ascent, including ~650ft in one shot. There were some internal negotiations going on regarding whether to tack on the 650-foot climb... but the promise of TWO fish sandwiches for supper cinched the deal :thumb: so up I went.

fletchh 12-27-11 05:34 AM

Not bad this morning at 37F (3C). The traffic was lighter, at least in some areas and on the highways. Expecting rain later, so it will be a wet ride home.

wphamilton 12-27-11 08:58 AM

The wildlife obviously didn't expect anyone out today since I startled several herds of deer, each six to a dozen in size. That's unusual, in fact I haven't seen that since before they built this trail. It's been raining and wet - the creek is within a foot of flood and several low spots I had to coast through - so likely no one's been out the last few days.

Funny how our perceptions can change. Not long ago I'd have thought 43 was cold, and worse for the wet. Now it's just another nice ride.

enigmaT120 12-27-11 11:24 AM

40 degrees, wet, dark, foggy. Back to normal. Oh well, the dry cold was nice while it lasted.

Mercian Rider 12-27-11 04:18 PM

This morning, about 35 degrees f, steady rain mixed with a little sleet. Pretty much the same on the way home. 27 miles total.

New rain suit still doing it's job--yay! And SKS Longboard fenders keeping bike and me clean. Rode on new Schwalbe Marathon Winter tires--I've put about 40 easy on them on pavement to "set" the studs. Looking forward to ice. :twitchy:

This morning's commute was 27 degrees - It is amazing how much warmer today's 27 feels than yesterday's 23! Both windless. Starting tomorrow the low is supposed to be back in the mid 30s, which is normal for El Paso. I guess it will feel pretty balmy! This morning, on the side streets I ride on, there were a lot more cars than usual. They swung wide, however, I had both of my PBSFs on high and my MiNewts blazing on the front of the bike. In El Paso people see a bike lit up like that and they don't know what the heck it is until they're actually passing by. On my way home today I had, hopefully, the final dog chase of 2011 - poor little critter couldn't keep up even though I was only going about 14mph . . . .Short legged little thing I guess!

fletchh 12-28-11 05:46 AM

A bit blustery at 40f (4C), but not too bad. They are promising stronger gusts, and I will deal with that in the afternoon. I did run into one head wind on one leg of the the trip this morning.

genel 12-28-11 08:26 AM

COldest day so far this winter, 16f but no wind. Finally traded the sandels for some insulated work boots. Bar Mitts worked well. But all the layers really slow me down. No other bikes today but did pass a couple of joggers. Forecast is for 30's this afternoon, which will seem cozy by comparison.

canyoneagle 12-28-11 10:33 AM

22F, overcast / inversion. I wasn't in the mood to climb out of my warm bed to ride to work, but feel fine now that I've had my morning endorphins (and coffee). I really do not like my job, but am grateful that it allows me to get my daily exercise.

DaHaMac 12-28-11 04:19 PM

Today's commute = humbling

This morning's 21 miles accomplished with a 16mph avs, a personal best.

This afternoon's 21 miles endured with a 13.9mph avs, the worst I've done in a long time! A steady constant headwind battled me all the way home this afternoon and I came as close as I have ever come to having to take a break just to get home. I know I gotta be getting stronger cause the constant headwind almost killed me ;)

After riding so much earlier in the month, taking two consecutive days off riding feels like an eternity. I got 3 two hour touring bike rides in late last week but took yesterday and today off. We got fresh snow today, so I'll take the mountain bike out tomorrow morning.

Even though it was above freezing for the longer rides, I used my electric foot warmers with thin socks. On the lowest setting it kept my feet warm the entire time. I'll probably use them every ride regardless of temperature for the remainder of the winter. The battery packs clip on very securely and surprisingly I don't even notice the weight despite their size. I can just barely get my shoes covers around them, which should keep them from going anywhere.

I got completely drenched. I wasn't 100% dry by the time I started my ride home (need to invest in better rain gear).

deanp 12-28-11 11:31 PM

My last commute for the year was pretty nice for late December, upper 30's with light winds from the south. The ride home in the morning will be about the same, but with a tailwind.

fletchh 12-29-11 05:29 AM

Just cold today at 26f (-3C), but no rain or wind. The wind yesterday was pretty rough going home. Headwinds going uphill just seem to sap your
energy, especially cold headwinds.

Ah, 26 not 36...I misheard the weather this morning on the radio. I was underdressed.

First day back in the saddle after a week off, felt good. Installed new rear pads last night, also picked up a pair of Merril Winter Mocs...these will do nicely for cold weather riding.

enigmaT120 12-29-11 11:31 AM

My last commute for the year! My legs didn't want to work. I don't know why. I didn't even ride yesterday but I did yoga when I got home from work.

It was warm (45?) and no rain. I would have been happier in shorts and a t-shirt, but didn't know it until I was out and riding. It was a really nice ride. 9 miles and no cars passed me. That's how good my tail lights are: they must vaporize approaching traffic.

wphamilton 12-29-11 12:09 PM

Coolest morning of the season so far - I should have known this is the day I'd have a flat and thought ahead to wear something heavier than a jersey and windbreaker.

I was shocked by one thing though. The CO2 cartridge I had half used months ago and left in the dispenser still had co2 in it, enough to pump up the tire! Consensus opinion is they leak out in a few days and that's what I always thought. But not this time!

canyoneagle 12-29-11 03:17 PM

Warmest day in weeks. It was 37F (2C) and drizzling this morning, and the ride home will be in the low 50's!!!!! YIKES!!!!
This is supposed to continue into next week. Nice break.

Fizzaly 12-29-11 06:07 PM

A very very warm end of December morning at 49f @5am, and 54f on the way home and the rain held off all day. I have a pretty good feeling we're (Boise) is going to pay for this unseasonal weather :)

Dean7 12-29-11 10:16 PM

Freakishly warm here as well. Commuted in to work in a shirt and a lightweight shell with no gloves and I was plenty warm. Believe it was 51f when I checked.
