Walking.

I got about a mile into my ride and suddenly inhaled a large insect (large horsefly or small beetle, i think). I coughed so hard to get it out of my windpipe (it went DEEP) that I vomited. Rode home, drove the car to work. ICK!

On crutches. hehe

I was out running once with my OIC and he inhaled a wasp or hornet. he went down like he was shot. nearly killed him.

A hornet would kill me unless I got the epi pen out in time. Then again, I thought I was going to die from whatever I tried to breathe, too...

The commute to work has been great, the lunch time errands could have gone better today. After going to the bank to deposit some money from the mason jar buried in the yard so I can do the fat tire urban assault this weekend I decided to really blow the budget and go get a slice of pizza which is only a mile on the other side of the office. After buying the slices of pepperoni pizza I opened up my trunk bag for the bungie cords which I ALWAYS keep in there.

Except of course today. So I opened up on of the wald folders and slipped it in sideways, hoping the toppings would not be in a pile in one corner when I got back. I rode very slowly, which is compared to my usual slow may have not broken the speed of smell. I love the walds but had a quart of resin and the hardner pop out going over railroad tracks last week.

Some of you probably know that there is a right way and a wrong way to carry a pizza box at an angle, namely opening side up. I too know this, now. fortunately the pizza was caught on the rack which is clean enough and I didn't loose any toppings. Not bad pizza.

Must remember to get the bungies back in the trunk bag tonight.

Whoo wee hot ride home..like riding into a blowdryer

After riding mountain bikes in Moab a couple weeks ago I understand what all you heat experiencing people are going through. I think the hottest it was was 101 when we were there. Just had to slow down so we didn't get heatstroke or anything. Also reminded me that when I lived in Tuscon I just didn't ride after the temp reached 104.

I've been enjoying the afternoon upper 60s - low 70s and warm/muggy upper 50s morning temps. Would like to see the sun again but I'll take the intermediate weather with a threat of a semi-warm rainshower over 100+ degrees.

After about a week, I'd give $100 for my desert again but right now I'd give $1000 to sit on a screened in porch looking at woods in a steady down-poor for about 2 days suckin' on sauteed mushrooms and slurpin' a good cab. I haven't seen a real rain in 5 years.

Didn't ride yesterday because of the 25mph head wind. Went ahead and did it today, because I missed riding yesterday even though it was still windy. My bike path dumps out to two lighted intersections. I slow down and enter the intersection riding outside of the crosswalk if its green. Both intersections today had a car in the crosswalk blocking the entrance to the connecting bike path, trying to turn right on a red.

Ugh! Irritating to say the least. And riding on a LWB recumbent makes it all that more interesting to get around them.

Even though the temp was warmer at 76 F (24 C), the humidity is down, so the ride felt cooler. The same poor dead racoon is still sitting
up against the curb, as he has been since Monday. The smell is rough in the heat. He must have gotten hit, and somehow managed to
sit up before rigamortis set in. He has fallen over as of this morning. I always take these things as a reminder of what cars do to cyclists as well.

Not too bad today. 68F/20C and sunny, with no wind. At one point I was riding with 4 other cyclists but the crowd thinned out as some people were passed and other people turned, and by the last block or two, I was alone again.

In the relative heat (hey it's hot for Vermont), I must be burning a lot of calories. Last night I had a salad with shrimp. 4oz of ziti with cheese and tomato sauce, and a pint of Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk, with a banana. :D My wife was astounded. Yet this morning I found I weighed less than I did last week.

Nice morning 63f, air felt cool and was overcast so a bit darker than norm.

I had some friends in town last night, so I decided to take advantage and grab a beer with them. I think I had one too many Stone Imperials because this morning's 8 mile commute took me about 5 minutes longer than normal. :twitchy:

Nah, no such thing!:D This reminds me that we just started getting Stone distributed in my area and I need to go pick some more up. Now just to convince the missus that I'm not spending too much on beer.:innocent:

Last night was hot. This morning was the same as the last few, but it's supposed to stay cooler today and only get up into the upper 80's. Chances are that it will be storming this afternoon but I'll take a stormy ride home over 100* heat any day.

Quite pleasant. 80F, a bit breezy, plenty of sun, humidity was moderate. No incidents or close calls. Didn't push too hard, but didn't go too easy either. Hopefully the ride home will be similarly uneventful and similarly pleasant.

Had a pleasant enough ride from the office yesterday evening, including a prolonged stop for an evening social event, which meant riding home in the dark for the first time since time change. It was late enough that there wasn't much traffic at all, and it was really quite pleasant, except for my paranoia every time some pick up or car passed me and I imagined the kids inside throwing stuff at me or such... which never happened.

This morning's ride was better than yesterday -- I didn't feel like my legs were made of lead. Left a little late, and was worried about making it 'on time' but I did fine. Got passed by a grand total of 2 bikes, one roadie in full kit with a tiny little back pack (compared to my 35 lbs panniers) and the other a regular commuter who got on the MUP a little after my halfway point (of course, he could have come 10 miles already too...) so I was feeling pretty good about my pace, given the heat. Had a great sprint from 7th st. to 4th St. pacing a guy on a very racy looking Cannondale (looked like a full CF frame).

Driving to Baltimore tomorrow, and, honestly, I think I'm a little thankful for the rest day.

Streets were a little damp, but I took the road bike anyways. I have all new gearing in the back, and this was the first commute using it. The new cluster (6-speed) has closer steps in the higher gears, which is most welcome, but when I hit the big hill, I found myself missing my old gears. I got used to a certain gear which isn't there anymore, so that'll be something to get re-accustomed to.

Speaking of hills, I usually pride myself on how well I can climb; today I was followed up by someone nearly as fast. It was kinda nice to see.

it was cool this morning, low 60's. I actually wished I had on arm warmers for the first couple miles till my blood got pumping.

88F already for my morning commute today. Headed for mid 94 today, slightly cooler than yesterday. Chance of afternoon storms today as cooler air is headed our way. Back into the 80s for a few days starting tomorrow. I always know it's mid to late summer in DC when I am thankful for 80sF as "cooler" weather.

Interesting assortment of headgear the last few days. Monday I saw a guy with a CCM ice hockey helmet on. Yesterday it was the guy on an eBike wearing what appeared to be a motocross helmet. Both seemed like they'd be hot and uncomfortable for bike riding, but how would I know? At least they were riding bikes, or derivations thereof...

Had my first commute in almost a week because of no air in the back tire. Got my pump yesterday from Amazon.
I also bought a sackpack at Dick's yesterday so I think I got everything I need for now for my daily commute.

It just feels great to be on my bike again.

rode in this morning with a typically warm muggy summer atmosphere...I work in a basement and emerged to an almost cool post-storm evening. I had no idea the temp had dropped. Lots of bikes out for the commute home, five of us in a row down one city street.

Just got over a bad cold and decided to ride today...Light drizzle, but headwind into work made crossing Dumbarton bridge the most difficult part of my 23.5 mile ride. Took a chance today and took a much different route home so I don't have to cross said bridge in 20-25mph headwind. Somewhat more dangerous, but didn't have to fight the wind...All in all a great ride home, except for the 1 mile I had to ride next to the Milpitas dump...Argh gross...
