Too hot to go fast today and yet.. passed a bunch of folks who may have been suffering from the heat more than I was.
Just checked and it was a balmy 86F in the shade today. |

Next time buzz around the big black limo a couple times on your bike. Those SS guys really do have a nice sense of humor.

This is how my commute was this morning (yesterday's sunrise was even more impressive):

58F/14C, and gray this morning. No wind. Damp pavement. I will hit 1,000 miles on the Soho tomorrow! |

Hit my 100 pound weightloss goal this morning. Decided to completely ignore the weatherman, as he's been dead wrong every single day this month. Overcast but wonderful ride. Best speed ever, averaging 16mph, must have been inspired by the milestone. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/112766652

The sun came out today! Haven't seen it in a couple of weeks, so it's good to know that it's still up there. Sunshine must make for a happier Anchorage, 'cause I got a lot more smiles, "howdy"s, "g'morning"s, and the like from fellow trail users than usual. Plus there was a killer tailwind heading home, and my new (to me) bike frame arrived about 15 minutes after I did. It was a good day to be a GriddleCake. :D

Wow blue9, where do you live? Sunrises like that cause my worst near-misses with animals.

The fires in C.Oregon have made for some amazing sunrises - although this morning I think there was too much smoke and it blocked out the sun too thoroughly, otherwise all of the clouds would have lit up a brilliant pink! I'm hoping that'll happen tomorrow. Yesterday morning the sun looked like a back-lit ruby! |
I think today may be the last 100 degree day of the year and tomorrow morning may be the last 80 degree low. It was 70 this morning and I peddled uphill two gears taller than I have all summer long. I've been dreaming about these days. As a new bike rider (May) I'm really wanting to spread my wings now that it is cooling off. Still, I haven't seen another bicycle commuter out there.
IronMan 70.3 this weekend. I'll be behind a camera. |
I've been wet for days it seems.
Super high humidity this morning, temps in the high 60s. Nice ride in. |
An easy commute today. It was 59, cloudy but dry. A nice change of pace after riding in the rain all week.

Some fog. Pretty comfortable though. 58F/14C. I'm sleepy. I reeled in a woman, then stayed behind her. Another commuter reeled us both in a couple of miles later, passed, and continued on. I stopped at exactly 1,000.0 miles on the Soho and took a picture. :P

Passed a commuting milestone over the past week -- topping 15,000 miles since I started 4+ years ago. At my current rate, I should top 8,000 total miles for 2011, my best year ever. To top it all off, I've now lost 30 lbs since last December.

Today's commute may not have actually happened...I got to work after pedaling for an hour and checked my bike computer time...0.0...looks like my battery is done. :notamused: Enjoy the ride! |
Congrats Tarwheel!
I hit my 2,000th mile somewhere in the dark this morning on the way in. Feel freaking awesome. :D |
Damp drizzly ride into work, but not enough to dampen my spirits.
I rode the LHT towing the trailer. I've got to buy pet supplies and groceries after work. |

I'm down 40 since February, allthough the pace has plateaued. I am still dropping a couple of pounds per week on average, but I got spoiled when I was losing it hand over fist this spring. |
Drizzling, and the ride was sweet! ;) When you ride in the pouring down rain, then come back and ride just in the wet, with a little drizzle, it seems like sunshine.;) I am proud to dickens over my beater bike. It rides super sweet. Got to find one in good shape just like it to add to my stable. The cages today were extra friendly. They gave me the right-a-way each and everytime I had to make a move. No horn-blowing or yelling. I always give a thank-you wave when the right-a-way is given to me, IMO, it shows appreciation to the cages that care.

For the first time since it got really hot for the summer- I rode my bike in to work today.
Dist: 23.23 mi Time: 1:47:29 h:m:s Ave. Spd: 12.97 mph UPhill total: 3871 ft Downhill Total: 3832 ft Riding my $8 from the Goodwill mountain-bike-shaped-object cut about 30 minutes off the same route on my road-bike-shaped Motobecane. Mainly due to the fact that the lower gears and a third chainring on the mbso made it far easier for me to handle the numerous non-trivial elevation changes so I could keep my AVS and energy level up. This coupled with the fact that I am much more comfortable and confident on 2.5 inch tires traversing the broken pavement sub-urban sprawl terrain than on 1.25 inch rbso tires. Still, 4 hours for the total round trip unfortunately takes too much time to do it every day what with wife and kids waiting at home and all. |

i only had a ~10mph headwind on the way in today. you may say that a headwind is a headwind, but after the savage NE winds that have been screaming off lake michigan all week, culminating in yesterday's 35mph (gusting to 45mph) stupidity festival, a 10mph headwind feels downright GLORIOUS! praise jebus!

Another beautiful morning. I am so spoiled. Road bike is working well, and I'm very happy to back on it.
Come Monday, I think I'll be starting to use lights in the morning. |
between Tarwheels post and blue9's pictures I'm really impressed. Congrats on 30 lbs lost!- and I hope you never find them!;)
As for me, I don't commute in until later today but yesterday was wet, wet, wet...did I say "wet"?- because that's what it was... "wet". I rode through puddles a good 1' deep at times in a solid downpour most of the way. My rain gear was good but at one point the sleeve of my Shower's Pass Jacket caught on my handlebar as I was about to signal a left turn and very nearly brought me down! The ride home was dark, dark, dark... and damp. With a moon struggling to light the way. I have to remember to lube my chain today. I'm sure any remnants of oil have been stripped off due to volume of rain. Cuz, man, it was wet yesterday. |
What is this rain you speak of ?
It is supposed to be another really hot day today... forecast is calling for 84F and sunny as all get out. |
Photos I took on this morning's commute are right here for your clicking pleasure.
Nothing too exciting, which is a good thing! It makes for a very relaxing start to the work day. |
