54 degrees, wonderful ride in. Clear, nice.

JPinWI 09-22-11 06:03 AM

Mid fifties, cloudy, strong west wind...slight drizzle 3/4s of the way in. Another beautiful day for a bike commute.:)

Igo 09-22-11 06:32 AM

Still going to be 100 this afternoon but I see 87 for a high on the weather channel future forecast. I count the days. Not so I commute but so I can play ALL day on the weekends.
I'm off. 72 to start. Better than 86 or 90.

Malachi292 09-22-11 06:33 AM

61F/16C, clear skies, and no wind.

It doesn't get much more awesome than today's ride in. First, I slept in a bit! Sweet. By the time I left, the sun was already rising in clear skies. Beautiful. The temperature was perfect for a bike ride. Due to the late start the traffic was heavier than usual but cooperative. Nice.

vtjim 09-22-11 06:33 AM

Temps around 60F/16C with a tailwind. We're in that phase where the sunrise is happening noticeably later by the day. Was up way too late last night. Friend wanted to come check out our new house. Wound up drinking beer until after midnight. :twitchy: So sleepy.

tarwheel 09-22-11 06:56 AM

We had heavy rains and thunderstorms last night, and no power when I woke up this morning. That made me about 20 minutes late on my morning commute, and the traffic was much much heavier. Good incentive to leave on time. Roads were still wet from the storms, with more expected today. Hopefully there will be a "window" in the rain showers later this afternoon.

Surrealdeal 09-22-11 07:02 AM

48 F and cloudy. Stayed warm everywhere except my feet.

Zrane 09-22-11 07:06 AM

52 and pouring rain. I contemplated going to the store to get a poncho or just caving and driving, as I have no rain gear what so ever.

Then I remembered that A) It's only 3 miles and B) I promised myself I'd ride all five days this week and, to quote Bill O'Reily. "**** it, we'll do it live."

On the bright side, coffee's very warm.

Chalupa102 09-22-11 07:49 AM

Good, but wet ride in today at 66F with rain and no wind. Passed 4,000 miles for 2011 on this trip and 4012.9 miles when I stopped at the rack. I would have liked to take a photo of when it rolled over, but it kinda took me by surprise. Last year, I didn't hit 4,000 till the end of December. If I keep this up, I'll definitely go over 5 before the year is up.

HardyWeinberg 09-22-11 09:05 AM

60F and muggy

canyoneagle 09-22-11 09:13 AM

55F, clear, calm. Beautiful.

gecho 09-22-11 09:21 AM

32 gusting to 46km/h headwind this morning, so I spent almost the entire ride in the drops.

I'm convinced now that I lost some muscle during my summer riding. That was mostly long distance highway riding with few starts and stops. My commutes are generally much more intense with periodic short sprints.

AlmostTrick 09-22-11 10:46 AM

49 degrees and fully dark for the first time when leaving the house. Had the sun on the horizon as I neared work. My start time has been flipping back and forth as co-workers take their vacation time.

muu 09-22-11 11:13 AM

mid fifties and a beautiful looking day. Took a longer route today across a bunch of MUP -- first time I've done a 25mile commute (initial goal was to start waking up earlier so I can do those kinds of rides regularly, but it's hard to work up that motivation when you can dart to the workplace in a 15min 4mile ride). Was surprised to see tons of people along the river on the side of the MUP where I usually don't go across; startled at least one jogger good as she let out a shriek when I hit a bump as I was passing her (at a safe distance). I'm a little surprised they don't ever seem to notice me w/ the bike speakers blaring out tunes...

ThermionicScott 09-22-11 11:22 AM

Upper 50's this morning, starting to get chillier. I'll have to start wearing something other than basketball shorts and an athletic T.

I'm very gradually getting faster with the commute. On the MTB, it took 40 minutes or more. On the Bianchi, it started out 37-38 min and I now have it down to a fairly consistent 35. The big unknown is a handful of bike-unfriendly intersections along the way. I'm thankful that I have trails for much of my route. :)

"How was the commute today?" - My ride in to work last night was great! Although I had a headwind pretty much all the way, it just served to cool me off as it was still pretty warm around 7PM on my ride from the north end of Seattle to Pill Hill. Despite surprisingly heavy traffic for a Wednesday evening, and my enjoying my tobacco pipe on my ride in, I had good luck with the lights and the cars and made record time! In fact, as I was bombing down Roosevelt headed for the University Bridge, I took the left lane to pass a slow moving (circa 30MPH) mini-van. Nothing like blowing the doors off a car as you pedal by! :D Slight descent + BIG chain ring = minivan dwindling in the rearview mirror after I took his lane (as is proper at the bridge abutment).

I just managed to dodge the rain on my way home. It was overcast but dry as I entered the parking garage to release my steed from the cage. In the couple of minutes it took to get to the cage, unlock her, load her up, get out of the corral and lock the gate it started raining. I had this feeling it was just raining near the top of the hill and so busted to get through the traffic and pedestrians to drop down off the hill. Although my ride is 7 miles each way, I've taken to riding home in my scrubs some days. I can't do it too many days in a row or I'll get chaffed, but it's nice not to spend the extra time changing before going home. But scrubs with a turtleneck underneath isn't exactly ideal rain-gear! Sure enough after I traded some elevation for speed, it was just overcast for the rest of my ride - nice! Heading in to a three week vacation seemed to energize me, so instead of being beat after my work week, I had a strong ride home, staying in much higher gears than I usually do on my return trip, with a nice pit stop at my favorite cafe a couple of miles short of home.

EKW in DC 09-22-11 02:43 PM

Broke a spoke on the rear wheel w/in two blocks of home last night, so first thing this AM was to replace the spoke with a spare I had lying around. Got that done and cleaned up cassette while I had it off.

Nice ride in. Took an alternate route in through Potomac Yard, Crystal City, past the Pentagon and over Memorial Bridge instead of on MVT. Nice to
change things up a bit.

Took advantage of a free pizza offer for Car Free Day pledgers for lunch so had a nice 3.5 mile round trip up to Dupont Circle.

It's muggy today but not too bad. Reminds me of what "cool' mornings felt like a month and a half ago. :)

Hoping rain's not too heavy tonight. I have class til 9:30 and bike has no indoor parking space at grad school. I have a plastic bag to cover my Brooks saddle, but still...

AlphaDogg 09-22-11 04:12 PM

I saw a google street view car. At first, I thought there was an insanely tall bicycle on the top of the car, but as I got closer, I saw it was a camera on a very tall monopod. As I got within 50ft, I saw it had the google logo on it with the words "street view". So naturally, I followed it. I took a slight detour home. I think I'm now on google street view! When/if it goes up, I will post a screenshot! :D

Malachi292 09-23-11 06:40 AM

57F/14C, cloudy, threatening to rain, not much wind to speak of.

According to wunderground it was raining when I left but I didn't see a drop any where. It sure did look like it could start raining at any moment though.

Pleasant enough ride. It seemed unusually chilly for 57 degrees. The tops of my hands got a bit cool. Not cool enough for gloves but cooler than they usually get for 57 degrees. Maybe it was the high humidity.

Humid as can be for the past two days, foggy too.

Stopped off at the big one year anniversary bash for Captityol Bikle Share last night on the way home. DC's red bikeshare's are all over the place now. I even scored a free helmet. Was really fun to see so many [eople rolling in.

Sixx days to one year of non-stop commuting.

scottsmith 09-23-11 06:53 AM

Had a great commute this morning! Temp was a bout 12C but with little to no wind and a light drizzle in the air.

I managed to crack the 60-minute (mainly mental) barrier for my 28km commute (by deciding I could do it, then doing it) which felt great! Funny how much better 59 minutes felt than another 60 would have, even though it's only a single minute difference.

Cheers!

wphamilton 09-23-11 07:27 AM

I've been getting a big kick out of commuting with my aero body kit. (another thread) Yesterday I finally got a chance to test it out in heavier rain and lighter rain this morning.

vtjim 09-23-11 08:07 AM

Low 60sF/~16C, humid, no wind. Saw a salmon sidewalk rider. Wondered if he thought the road was dangerous.

Also saw a big domestic cat near my house. From the cat's reaction, I was terrifying. It ran off and kept looking to see where I was. Oh well. Some cats do that.

tarwheel 09-23-11 09:09 AM

The weather forecasters are calling for heavy rains and flash flooding today, so I drove. So far, we've had nothing but light sprinkles, but that could change. We've had tons of rain in NC lately -- easily more than 12" since the beginning of September. It's also been coming in big chunks, 2-3" during a single storm.
