I use CardioTrainer for the Droid. There's a free module which is great. I paid the $9.99 to get the "Race Yourself" module which is awesome!

I'm new to bike commuting since this spring. Did 3 trips a week spring/summer/fall. It's only 8mi but for me it's what I think I can handle right now.

Rode home last night in about half an inch of snow. I only saw two other cyclists and a few joggers on the MUP. It was nice to be making fresh tracks. Ride took about 20 minutes longer on my ice bike (steel frame, studded snow tire MTB).

At -7C its been another warm day. The forecast for next week is back to a more normal -15 to -20 range. I've been enjoying the above -10C weather and light wind that we've had all week. Only downside is the brown sugar gunk on the roads.

I pumped up my tires after getting home yesterday. I knew my floor pump was out 10psi, but apparently I forgot which way it was out. I pumped them to 70 thinking it was 60psi, but after getting home today my good gauge read 80psi. I noticed I was cutting through a brown sugar a bit better today, so I'll leave the tires at that pressure.

I'm loving the heavy surplus army wool sweater that I bought in December. Keeps me warm and doesn't trap in excess humidity the way my soft shell wind breaker does.

This again.

But today I rode my old Trek 5200 that I built up with a craigslist Tiagra wheelset and DA downtube shifters. I missed the old warhorse. She's still got a lot of miles in her and she'll make a fine commuter/rain training bike.

Wed night ride home, 32f and no wind. A few patches of ice, the nokiain hakkapelitas 106 did just fine. Am ride back to work, 16 f , slight headwind, no frozen gatorade on the 18 miles, bonus.

Flatted this morning. I forgot how much flats suck in cold (well cold for Texas) weather. The good news was my new Lezyne pump worked great on its first road test.

7F on the bike ride in this morning, a little more then 15 miles. Great ride in this morning but stuck with the roads as some of the trails weren't plowed very well. Took the roads home too.

jdgesus 01-06-11 09:31 PM

great!
no rain, a bit of headwind, and pretty warm for this time of year.
had too much in pack tho, disliked that :(

There was some dusting when when I came out, and I was expecting it. Not bad at 25 F ( -4 C). I took my time on the snow covered roads, but the main roads were fine, as so much stuff was already down from previous events. Cars were very hesitant, and I guess that is a good thing.

I've been riding to the gym (6 miles, 400ft) lately buy skipped yesterday and instead went to the grocery to get some soup and popsicles. Pretty nice ride. I'm getting more comfortable in busy traffic!

16f third day in a row the weather guessers were off by more than 10 degrees, not a bad ride in.

Flags a flyin in the wind. Not too chilly 30+ i believe but I was tired this morning riding in.

That's awesome. I LOVE riding in the cold. Well, the dry cold.

Today was the toughest commute since the first snow back in the fall. -11C and despite a 30-40km/h tailwind I only managed a trip average speed of 14.4km/h. There was fresh snow yesterday evening, but the high winds during the night left dense drifts on the MUP. The worst section was the start of the MUP where many were pedal deep, one section was about 3 feet deep so I had to drag the bike through. When I first got on the MUP I saw a jogger about 400 feet ahead of me. It took me 3km to catch up with him. I had to pedal very fast in the lowest gear on my second chain ring just to maintain any sort of forward momentum for some of the longer snowy sections.

Fortunately after about 2km of the really rough stuff it got better. Towards the end of the ride I encountered 3 other cyclists, which is the most I've seen in a single winter commute. Hopefully the MUP gets ploughed before I head home, the city has been pretty good about keeping it clear this winter.

I like 'My Tracks' Turn it on, let it go, turn it off. Very simple and gives me more info than I need

Today, 45F and clammy. Should have guessed the same outfit that worked earlier in the week in the teens and twenties would be a bit steamy.

Great offshore windy ride this morning. Using my new Timbuk 3 handlebar bag, but it isn't very comfy is I want to ride out of the drops. Anyone have suggestions for a good handlebar bag that will work with a light and computer?

jdgesus 01-07-11 10:46 AM

warm for this time of year. and a break in the rain.
rode in with my wife. all is good

caloso 01-07-11 11:33 AM

39F and heavy mist, almost but not quite drizzle. Took the long way in this morning. Legs were heavy but traffic was light. Could have been worse.

daijoubu2k8 01-07-11 11:51 AM

Warmer but wet ride in this morning from my son's daycare again. 8C/48F with rain. This is the first time since the Christmas season started that I've been able to ride 4 days in a week. It's been nice and my legs are finally get used to the hill again.

jeffpoulin 01-07-11 12:11 PM

Very warm today. 6C (43F) this morning and 10C (50F) this evening. I forgot how to dress for these temps, and of course, was way too hot.

Next time you see him, call out, "Hi, Mike!" I'm pretty sure it's him. I checked and he does run double racks on a blue LHT.

Cold, but not as windy as most rides and no snow. I still have the XC tires on and was excited about the potential to ride in a dusting of snow but, nothing happened in DC. I guess our next chance is Tuesday. I'm still recovering from Wednesday's lunch ride and was a little achey and slow but, had a spurt of energy/speed as I passed another cyclist on Maine Ave, I hammered and must have been close to 30. The ride home will be cold and raw but otherwise, not a real challenge. Looking forward to next Wednesday's lunch time ride (provided the snow doesn't shut it down), we're slowly ramping up and will include sprints and intervals-everyone is excited at the likliehood of getting a head start on the Spring training/riding season.

twobadfish 01-07-11 01:49 PM

25* this morning. Rode to the bank (drive-thru) then to the grocery store and finally a hair cut. Pretty awesome.

ziggy_stardust 01-07-11 02:54 PM

Ew, you put a barber through cutting your sweaty hair? I hope you tipped well, haha.

CptjohnC 01-07-11 02:55 PM

Didn't ride to work today, due to meeting requirements, but I did ride my new project bike (which is currently parked at the office) for an errand, so not a bike free day. Thanks for all the recommendations for apps. I'll definitely check them out!
