Good commute home at 42F and overcast with winds from the NNE @ 9mph. Had to pull off about half way to change out the batteries on my rear DiNotte light. I'll be throwing the spent ones in the charger and they'll become my backup batts now.

Did the GA Ride to the capital event http://www.georgiaridestothecapitol.org/
The weather was awesome! Ended up logging 52 mile round trip. (started in East Cobb).

BigCircles 03-22-11 08:48 PM

Wind was howling again on the ride home tonight in Central Texas. Sustained southerly headwind @ 25 with gusts close to 40.

And to top that off, I got a flat less than a mile from home as I rolled into my neighborhood.

Not the best day on the bike...

fletchh 03-23-11 04:58 AM

A dense misty rain at 42 F ( 6 C), and from here is it all down hill through the weekend into next week. I said goodbye to the nice mild days, and now to deal with cold, rain and possibly snow again.

tarwheel 03-23-11 05:53 AM

The pollen was so thick this morning that it looked like snow flurries in my headlight beam riding through my neighborhood. The warm weather must have brought it out, as it hit the mid-80s yesterday and is expected to get that warm again today. I've taken advantage of the warmer weather to ride one of my faster bikes the past two days and made great time, but I was back on the touring bike today because I had to carry more gear.

dcb23 03-23-11 06:08 AM

Groggy from a late night fire alarm in my building. But the mist woke me up a bit as did the cooler temps riding in.

Love my new headlamp in this stuff.

FunkyStickman 03-23-11 06:37 AM

Weather's getting warm again... *sigh* won't be long before it's scorching on the afternoon rides. Today was excellent, much less fog than last week, and I made better time.

Fizzaly 03-23-11 06:53 AM

36f Slight wind not a bad morning, slow ride in though as I rode the MTB into work this morning. I'm really hoping the winds stay calm today and the forecast was right so I can get up in the foothills and do some mountain biking after work.:)

gecho 03-23-11 08:01 AM

2nd day on the mountain bike, I've decided to ride it all week since it handles the melting MUP much better. It was only -9C today but my feet were cold and getting numb, it seems my foot circulation is worse on the mountain bike. We lucked out and got pretty much none of the 40cm of snow that was forecast.

There are some sketchy icy spots but for the most part the roads are clear. On Monday's ride home I rode out onto some ice on the MUP then suddenly dropped into 6 inches of water when the ice gave way. A few more warm days and several parts of the MUP that are on a flood plain will be under water.

Beautiful! Low 60's, calm and tons of riparian flying insect life. P'tooey!

Steely Dan 03-23-11 08:44 AM

The 3rd day in a row of cold, WINDY, raw, & damp BS here in chicago. This broken record is getting real old real fast.

It's ok though, because tomorrow it's supposed to snow! Zip-a-dee-doo-dah!

Lousy Smarch weather.

canyoneagle 03-23-11 08:44 AM

Checked the weather before bed and got my stuff organized accordingly. The weather channel website predicted mid to high 30's F and clear.
It felt chillier than that as I walked to the old garage behind the house. Once I warmed up I felt fine. Checked the weather at work: 28F. No wonder.

The more time I spend on my Vesta the more I am convinced that I will have a custom fitting done, have a frame made to my specs, and transfer what I can from the Vesta. The bike is just...... awkward. Despite the ridiculously long top tube for a frame that is admittedly too small for me (the largest they offered) - 63cm ETT for a 22" frame - I still feel like an unexpected bump will take me down. I do not feel balanced at all, and I've tried 4 different stems and as many different handlebars.
It's just a bad fit for me.

Aeneas 03-23-11 09:25 AM

Chose to make this morning the first commute of the Spring this morning despite the lousy snain that was coming out of the sky. Took my hybridized mountain bike. Felt good on the way to work, great to be back on the bike... hopefully the lousy Smarch weather stops by the time I head home.

Scheherezade 03-23-11 09:34 AM

Came into work at 4AM; icy slush about 2" thick on the road with sleet in my eyes. Got done with my first class at 10AM; start to ride home for lunch. My rear derailleur snaps in half at 10:05AM; I head back to school.

Guess who gets the ride the bus home? Maybe I'll keep a spare derailleur in my locker for next time, =P

EKW in DC 03-23-11 09:39 AM

Mid forties and overcast this AM. Southeast wind was mostly a tailwind which was nice. Rode in shorts and 2 short-sleeved tee-shirts. Very comfortable. Can't it be like this every day I know I certainly wouldn't complain abt the temperature.

Left my rack trunk @ home in favor of full-on panniers today so I can throw the panniers on the front rack heading home and strap a larger UPS pkg to the rear rack. Nice to have the versatility.

MarcusW 03-23-11 09:42 AM

Cold and rainy today, made for a wet commute. Last Friday, however, was beautiful - and the perfect day to use the new camera my boss gave me.

HardyWeinberg 03-23-11 10:45 AM

37F and foggy. I took the straight vertical route today rather than the switchbacky MUP, still feeling that in my lungs a bit.

enigmaT120 03-23-11 11:16 AM

I loved the ride this morning. It was about 32 F. and the moon was still up and giving off a lot of light. After I climbed up the ridge in the middle of my ride I met a warm breeze; I guess it was a head wind but it felt and smelled really good. I coasted along the ridge for a while watching the valley in the moon light before heading down into Dallas to catch the bus. I wasn't ready to stop.

SarahE719 03-23-11 12:02 PM

Absolutely beautiful ride in this morning. 39F and not a cloud in the sky. My pace was a bit slower today due to a couple glasses of wine last night :) but I still made it within a reasonable amount of time. I'm also getting more comfortable with my pedals so it doesn't take me as long to get going from a stop. Yay!

nelson249 03-23-11 01:11 PM

Bloody lousy. We got nailed with a snowstorm (courtesy of our friends SOUTH of the border, thanks guys ;)) and I got guilted into not riding into work today and wound up taking the stupid bus. I also forgot my keys and had to bus over to my wife's work to pick up keys so I could get back in the house. Sucked up half the work day messing around.

jdgesus 03-23-11 01:24 PM

yesterday, on the way home -- riding a different route out of shear boredom -- had a some guy say "hello, officer" as i rode by.

typical hoodlum looking dood, but i laughed when he said it.

zoltani 03-23-11 02:09 PM

jdgesus, were you riding your mountain bike on the sidewalk again?

zoltani 03-23-11 02:11 PM

Typical commute today, but even clearer than yesterday, olympics, cascades, and rainier in full view. Makes me realize why I like it here.

I put on some new kool-stop pads and cleaned my wheels. So nice....

Chalupa102 03-23-11 03:20 PM

Great commutes today. 31F and overcast with winds from the ENE @ 8mph this morning. 34F with snow and winds from the W @ 5mph just now. Tried a slightly different route in just to see if I liked it. I may stick with it for now. Also changed up the route home a little just to avoid one of the side roads that I usually take. The traffic on it was way backed up trying to get onto the main road.

Catgrrl70 03-23-11 04:20 PM

37 on the morning start, clear sky, no wind, nice ride in. Had a nice convo with another cyclist about a certain hill we have to watch out for drivers on.

Now it's around 62 degrees and sunny! My gosh! I can ride without leg warmers, a coat or any rain gear. I am now trying to figure out how early I can leave work without attracting undue notice....:D
