Beautiful.
A little chillier than in recent days - right around freezing -crisp, clear morning, fresh dew, bright yellow glow behind the mountains.

I had to announce my presence "on your left" to a sleepwalker in a hoodie who was blindly crossing the street in front of me. He was startled. t was a very quiet residential street, and I guess he didn't hear my bike with all of it's ninja quietness. ;)

Allergy season is starting to kick in. While the ride was a bit crisp and the weather treated me to a mild head/ cross wind, my brain was a bit foggy on the ride to work. Still is. Passed another cyclist who was moving slow(er than myself) and carrying a lot of bags with her, gave her a couple dings on the bell and wished her a happy Earth Day then pulled away.
Otherwise, made it to work alive, so it's a good day!

Edit (additional comment): It's amazing the difference a cleaning and lube job made on the drive train! The other day was frustrating as heck with a tight link causing some skips and autoshifts so I did a fairly quick but thorough cleaning of the chain the other night. In retrospect to the frustrating ride the other day, this morning's commute was a dream!

Thanks to my trusty Trek, even though I fell back to sleep this morning i made it from bed to the train station in just 10 min... i too had to ding a 'sleepy' pedestrain who crossed my path but didn't seem to notice me until i hit the bell...

Did a roadie fix for ya, just for fun :P
Yeah, it is a sunny Friday before a commonly observed holiday, and I'm not interested in working....... :D

Rode to the university to study. The door to the underground parking was locked, so I had to take my bike inside and down some stairs. The change rooms are locked too, so I don't have access to my change of clothes.

Oh well, after I finish a bottle of OJ I guess I'll be forced to bike some more :)

I had a decent tail wind for yesterday's ride home. I managed with some effort to get over 40 km/h several times and to a top speed of 46.

Chalupa102 04-22-11 11:30 AM

41F and overcast with slight winds from the N @ 3mph.

I'm not sure what it was/is about today? I'm rarely told to get off the road; maybe once every couple weeks if that. Today three different vehicles voiced their opinions in 1.5 miles of each other.

It was on a 4-lane road (2 lanes each direction) that I regularly use. I was in the center of the right lane like I usually am. The first guy in a Jeep beeped twice as I was accelerating from a light that had just turned green. He then passed, and as he was he told me to get off the road. The second about a mile later in a car just beeped long as he was going by in the left lane. The third guy in a car about a minute later yelled to get off the road.

The weird thing was, all three times they had no problem getting to the left lane to pass because there wasn't much traffic around.

Besides all that, it was actually a great ride in. I saw four bicyclists on the commute, with one being a salmon. I was pretty shocked because I'm lucky if I see one other rider during the whole 40 mile R/T commute.

It was in the low 40's this morning and it had just rained. It felt good to get out and ride. It was a nice relaxing ride in even though I knew I was late for work. Its so nice to be able to just bring the Mini Velo inside to my office when I am short for time and don't want to take the time to lock it up.

Gloomy all day but no rain so I'll take it!

Came across a family of Canada geese on the MUP coming home. The same section where there's been an aggressive hissing goose the past few nights, but tonight he was joined by mama goose and two little fluff-balls. Not only got hissed at tonight, but papa goose made a lunge at me--accelerated hard and he hit something on the back of the bike, hope he was ok but I didn't stop to check.....

Also, tonight marked passing 100 miles in a commuting week, a first for me. Thought it was kind of fitting on Earth Day :)

Cold wet ride home, was not dressed for this at all. Stopped for dinner with some friends, then resumed the ride for the short remainder home but man I was shivering.

cyclokitty 04-22-11 11:23 PM

Chilly, overcast, I wore knickers - regretted it, and there was absolutely ZERO traffic on the roads because it's Good Friday. It was a fun, fast commute. Except for the super cold shins.

When I start wearing shorts in the spring I always carry long socks and shell pants... the weather can turn on a dime here.

Forecast for the Easter weekend is shorts, followed by more shorts as we are finally getting some double digit temperatures.

:)

(Forgot to report yesterday.)

Was an awesome commute home yesterday afternoon at 53F and partly cloudy with winds from the SSW @ 6mph. The ride home I had no rude motorists voicing their opinions as I did that morning. In fact, I got quite a few positive comments from them instead. There was definitely a lot of traffic out, which was expected because of the holiday.

MikeyBoyAz 04-23-11 02:36 PM

Sunny and HOT here in AZ... two days this year have been rainy, the rest... sunny and hot.

fletchh 04-25-11 04:35 AM

Just a wondeful warm morning at 62 F (17 C). Dense fog in low lying areas, but other than that, just a great ride. I found myself dwadling, which I need to keep track of, mostly because the weather is so nice. My arms, hands, legs and feet just love the warm air. All winter long I just long for these days, thinking that they are so far out.

dcb23 04-25-11 05:44 AM

I'll echo Fletch, perfect ride in. I love the wet and clean streets after a night of thunderstorms.

Short sleeved shirt and shorts, I can feel the heat approaching.

vtjim 04-25-11 06:54 AM

Very nice this morning. 40f/4c, sunny, no wind.

Fizzaly 04-25-11 07:10 AM

44f nice morning, my legs were still a little tired from a ride in the mountains yesterday

EKW in DC 04-25-11 07:22 AM

Definitely starting to feel like summer. 65 and sunny when I left home around 8 AM and high humidity. Mid 80s this afternoon... yick!!! Bring back my 40 degree mornings!!! At least, knock on wood, the tourist traffic on the Mall was significantly lighter today.

Good ride despite temps. 7 miles in under 30 min. door to door including a few stops for red lights.

Weekend bike build didn't happen. Coop was closed Saturday (not enough volunteers I guess), and plans yesterday kept me from getting anything done. Always something foiling my plans with the new bike. Oh well... good things come to those who wait, so the new bike should be pretty f-ing incredible at this point! :)

gecho 04-25-11 07:47 AM

2C for ride in with a high of 19 today. I passed a guy on a e-bike wearing a full face helmet. He didnt have his lights on and was riding outside the bike lane on a 70km/h section of road. I think he had delusions of being a motorcycle. Today is my last final, so I'll need to find a summer job if I want to keep commuting. After I drop my laptop and remaining locker contents off at home, I'll go for an afternoon ride without panniers for a change.

I'm starting to see a lot more wildlife around. Flocks of geese, ducks, and yesterday I encountered a garter snake on the MUP. It always catches me off guard when I see one sliding sideways.

Aeneas 04-25-11 08:14 AM

Today was one of those days where it seemed like I hit every light on my route. Not that I minded, it was nice to ride in short sleeves, but not warm enough to not wear a windbreaker. Went slow and enjoyed the pastel colors of spring blossoms and buds in the intermittent sunlight.
Since I ride past a friend's house on a daily basis and that friend is still away on a family vacation, I stopped briefly at the house to do a check of the perimeter to make sure the house hadn't been broken into or consumed by fire.
Hoping for a pleasant ride home.

I_like_cereal 04-25-11 08:45 AM

Today the weather beat me. I decided that the incoming storm was not for me. Something about rain, thunder and 50 mph gusts, settling to 30 mph steady winds, just did not seem conducive to riding in today.
