Ride in was very foggy today, but not much traffic to speak of. I got to work and realized I left all my tools and spares at home! Grrrrrr... hope I don't get a flat on the way home this afternoon. Very unlikely, but still.

Oh, also hauled about 50 pounds of books on the LHT to a garage sale this weekend. That was fun, first time I carried a heavy load with it. I am definitely going to need a kickstand for it if I do that again.

dcb23 05-09-11 06:30 AM

another perfect spring commute. Savoring this while it lasts. More bikes in the lanes this morning which is fun.

Fizzaly 05-09-11 06:46 AM

39f Nice morning, even had a bit of the elusive tail wind:)

vtjim 05-09-11 07:45 AM

Took the rat bike today. Felt like a hobo. :P Found for $12 at a yard sale back in '04 or '05 I think. It's a "Murray... Eagle River." Meh. It'll do until I get a new bike. (I posted here last week about a split top-tube.) I'm still leaning toward a Trek Soho. Waiting to see what Trek & the LBS can do for me as far as the broken frame goes.

Nice weather, finally. Temp around 50F / 10C, and sunny, with a light tailwind.

himespau 05-09-11 08:26 AM

tried a new route today, but my computer jostled loose and didn't keep track of ~ a mile of it, so I don't know exactly how long it was. Other than that, nice.

Beautiful spring weather in Louisville this morning. I was still feeling the effects of last night's beer, but the fresh air helped.

I rode in work clothes, on the single speed. I forgot to put on my helmet, and didn't bother to go back for it. I missed the mirror mounted on it though.

I expected to see a bunch of cyclists on such a nice day, but there were none. Weird.

Louisville may be having a mass-hangover from Derby and the associated parties. :)

HardyWeinberg 05-09-11 08:33 AM

45F gray dry (which is to say puddles only splash don't crest)

groovestew 05-09-11 08:50 AM

4C, sunny, calm. Beautiful and uneventful.

canyoneagle 05-09-11 08:51 AM

44F and rainy. Amazing what cool temps and some wetness will do to keep cyclists off the road. It seemed like the past two weeks had brought everyone out of the woodwork, but I did not see one other cyclist this morning. They're projecting a high of 49F today, and similar weather for tomorrow (cooler temps, rain).

Today is my wife's 42nd birthday, so she's picking me up to go grab some outrageously good Mexican food at a place that specializes in mole' (they have 7 different varieties). MMMMMMMM

CptjohnC 05-09-11 11:18 AM

Warm, sunny, not too windy. What more could I ask for? I even have my trusty Dew Drop back... it isn't faster than the MTB, but it sure is more comfortable!

enigmaT120 05-09-11 11:20 AM

It didn't rain. Today was my first morning commute without rain pants. It was nice once my legs warmed up. It was about 40 degrees, and it is starting to be light out when I leave the house.

RT 05-09-11 11:37 AM

First morning commute without leg/arm warmers and winter gloves. Spring is here.

Ipedaltahoe 05-09-11 02:11 PM

Well Winter is back, rode to work in the snow, oh Joy! Well it was nice while it lasted, hopefully by Sunday it will be nice for stage 1 of the tour of California. Have my spot all picked out to hang out at all day and snow and wind would suck.

EKW in DC 05-09-11 02:28 PM

It was a beautiful ride in today. Getting warmer every day, at least in the mornings. 60*F @ 8:30 today... 75 for the ride home.

Still lovin' the LHT. Got a little tweaking done over the weekend and got my front rack installed. Took several washers on each side with a longer bolt to space it out far enough from the fork to make it fit OK, but it's on. Now that it's finally clad in all its fenders and racks it no longer seems naked. :)

saw two car wrecks Friday which I hadn't mentioned yet. One minor fender bender by the Tidal Basin in the AM and then a chain reaction on Constitution in the afternoon involving 4 or 5 cars and lots of crunching.

vtjim 05-09-11 05:09 PM

The rat bike got me home safe & sound. I stopped to watch two muskrats playing in flooded wetlands. After that, I came upon two girls and a man stopped and watching a pretty large garter snake on the elevated boardwalk section of the MUP, which is over lots of flooded ground. I told them the snake was harmless. Hopefully they didn't hurt it.

Great, but pretty windy commutes today. 59F and sunny with winds from the N @ 14mph this morning. This afternoon it was 71F and sunny with winds from the NNE @ 18mph gusting to 30mph.

merkong 05-09-11 07:23 PM

Awesome. Checked the radar this AM and knew I could easily beat a fairly intense thunderstorm pushing into the Minneapolis area on my way in. After arriving, I chilled out to see this incredible squall line in the sky and later heard the commotion from my office. Wore shorts for the first time this Spring. The ride home was sunny, warm and windy as heck. Great ride.

jdgesus 05-09-11 08:34 PM

mashed all the way home. felt great...

Marcster 05-09-11 09:24 PM

Today was Commute #3 for 2011 -- my first since 4/29/11 and I think the hills got steeper in my absence from riding.

A groundhog was watching me peddle by during my ride home at dusk.

Mardmakarm 05-10-11 12:25 AM

Parking my bike while doing a grocery shopping, these baskets work pretty well. :)

Saw 4 deer on the bike trial at about 10pm, but with all of the ominous unidentified eyes staring at me, it was a bit too creepy for my tastes so I went back to the road where every drives like they're crazy at 45mph+. Other than that, not too bad. I just started and it's still taking me way longer than I'd like, but that may be my fate until I get a more suitable bike (on a MTB with slicks right now..). Still WAY better than driving :D

sharrn 05-10-11 03:29 AM

Annoying. I didn't ride due to wind warnings 25-45mph gusts. Tailwind's fine, but it would have been a headwind on my way home. Needless to say it put me in a bad mood driving. I don't drive unless necessary.

making 05-10-11 04:08 AM

A bit windy, but a wonderful and fast ride in, even with all the obstacles. A couple of miles of road is ground up so yesterday I rode the sidewalks. I decided that was too dangerous so I went down the dark, intercity alleys. What's the word? Brilliant. No problems but riding between two dark buildings it dawned on me that it wasnt a good idea, either. Back on the sidewalks, I am going to come up in the morning and search for a street way in, its my day off.

Does anyone commute up US 31 from Geenwood? I am seeing all kinds of new commuters.

fletchh 05-10-11 04:34 AM

Cool ride in at 48 F ( 9 C). The weather is staying nice, so the afternoon should be wonderful as well. Yesterday going home I saw 4 bikes going in the opposite direction at different parts of the ride. It is always fun to ride with the traffic and pass another cyclist standing at a sidestreet red light. It would be nice if many more people got out of their cars.

There were a bunch of us riders on East Capitol street on the way home last night, I love it when there is a pack of bikes at the light.

Perfect ride in again.
