Awesome commute tonight.
First day of the year that it was light enough late enough and no chance of rain for me to ride my road bike (83 Raleigh Technium) instead of my fat tire fender beast. Love ripping down the hills on that Raleigh! YeeeeeHAAAA! :D |
A normal ride in at 55 F ( 13 C). Nice weather in the afternoon is continuing, and it feels very good.
|
The weather right now is beautiful for it, and no flats today, although my chain is skipping a lot. Talked briefly to another cyclist who commented on my bright orange jersey. He had a GPS on his bike. :O

46f Nice morning, rode the mountain bike in gonna hit the foothills after work really liking this weather we gots in Boise right now.
|
A great ride this morning, really enjoyed it. Sunny and clear with only courteous drivers, and it felt great!!
I'm not fast or in very good shape, but getting better and today was the fastest I've been on this ride (64 minutes for 28.2km), so good times there too! |
The weather was nice, 70F, humid, a little hazy. I was wearing work clothes and took a nice slow pace to avoid sweating badly.
OTOH, I had a bad night and was in a bad mood this morning. I'm glad I rode to work, but now I want to turn around and ride home. Blah. |
Nice morning. When I woke up, I almost bailed on the ride since I was pretty tired but since it was going to be a nice day, decided to ride. On the way, an unleashed dog grabbed my pannier; the owner was very embarrassed. The dog didn't seem threatening so I wasn't concerned it was going after me and missed. Still, my bag was covered in slobber, which I had to wipe off - yuck!

Good ride in this morning, low 60's with a moderate headwind. First morning ride for me with just shorts, felt good not to have the extra layer. Looks to be in the mid 70's for the ride home later today. Should be fun.

Yesterday I rode home into a 20-25MPH headwind. Ugh. Some guy on a bike came up behind me in a congested area and since I was on the rat bike I decided to go slow-ish and let him pass, as I wasn't in a mood for silly commuter racing. I keep expecting the rat bike to fall apart. :D Guy turned out to be on a hybrid with fenders and skinny tires, and not any faster than me, so I just rode behind him for about 5 miles until we split up.
This morning I hiked 2.5 miles to the bus (going out for beer after work) and spotted 2 muskrats sleeping in a nest on a log. :o It's why I like my car-free commutes! I snapped a photo with my iPhone... http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=201461 |
Missed my commute yesterday. Nasty sore throat kept me home from work yesterday. Bummer b/c I wanted to ride more. I did at least make the one mile round trip to the drug store and post office yesterday on my bike.
No commute again today b/c of unrelated Dr's appts keeping me from work, but I'm feeling somewhat better so I may try to get out for a ride this afternoon if time allows. |
First commute of the year where I didn't wear a bandanna under my helmet to keep warm. 10C, sunny, windy (tail and cross). Supposed to be very windy for the ride home, head and cross winds for me.
|
47F, light drizzle. Whether or not the planet is moving into spring, my metabolism is so this was fine in shorts and fingerless gloves.
|
Gorgeous weather! ~60F and overcast coming in. A bit too much breeze, but really not bad. Definitely lighter bike traffic on the MUP, but enough to make it feel 'social'. Got to tuck in behind someone bigger than me for a stretch (no reasonably safe passing margin, or so I told myself ;-))
Rode the 'long' way home last night and it was glorious too. Working from home tomorrow, so I will have to make up an excuse to ride :-) |
Beautiful morning and I was cranking along happily till I flatted 2/3 of the way in. Front flat so not a big deal to replace the tube. I was at an intersection and a commuter stopped next to me waiting on the light. Nice guy, asked if I needed help and commented that it was an awesome day to be riding. Even with the flat, I had to agree with him. Fixed, aired up and on my way in a little over 5 minutes.

a bit damp... but at one of the busier intersections in town (bike heavy area too) i saw a guy cruising down (slight hill) in the bike lane....
some guy in a work van who seemed lost... slowly looking for an address and decided to turn right (into the rider) he did a great job of bobbing and weaving, but in the end, his body removed the guys passenger side mirror and he went down (very gracefully!) he was OK, and angry... rode off after cussing at the driver |
Overnight rain cleared off by daybreak, so I had a nice dry ride to work this morning. However, we are getting smoke from a large wildfire in Eastern NC, which makes the air quality bad. My throat was scratchy by the time I got to work, and I probably would have driven if I had realized the smoke was so bad before I left home.

another in a string of perfect rides in.
|
Cool and damp ride in. 46F with low clouds and lots of humidity (unusual for the west) The streets were dry despite what felt like a steady light rain. The humidity created a heightened awareness of the slight headwind - the air felt thick as it pushed against my body.

Nice, nice, nice riding weather! 19ºC, a bit windy but super sunny. Loved it. Then all of a sudden, I see lots of people on bikes. Theres one riding in the opposite direction, another coming around the corner, I can see 2 more in my rear view mirror, and then I see a couple more ride thru the stop sign. Wow! They just come out of the wood work once the weather feels like springtime. Good to see! Until one of them ticks me off...then I'll mutter about "fair weather cyclists" who don't even bother to slow down at stop signs and wreck all of the good will I've built up along my route since they all disappeared in October. Sheesh.
Still, nice to have some company. |
what a wet ride home!
chatted with a fellow commuter on a nice lemond (so many lemonds in seattle.. love those reynolds 853 frames) did i say i got wet? |
Second week on with the knobbies exchanged for 1.25" slicks, and just swapped in a new straight bar with 1.5" sawed off each end to make it thinner. MAN my bike is fast! Kind of fun to feel like I need higher gears. I love my commute right now.

Second commute of the year today. Started from a different place today because I had to be somewhere at 6:30a before riding into work. However, it looks like it is going to rain today, so i don't know if I'll make the commute home :(
|
A bit cool at 50 (10 C), but a good ride in. Ran over some in the dark, but no flat tire, at least when I arrived.

My driveway has a good slope to it and I usually cut the corner up onto the walk and ride right up to the front door as I park my DD in the dinning room. I didn’t carry enough momentum to pop up the back wheel over a little bump and I managed to do the unclip right foot fall left trick.
Tried like hell to keep from going over but finally accepted it was going to happen and went with it. I was going to fall into the flower bed of Day Lilies along our walk on my back where it is fairly soft so really my worry wasn’t about getting hurt it was about the Monster Banana spiders that usually make a home there. I was laughing as I went down. I was busting my ass trying to get my left foot unhooked from the peddle to get back up before the spiders got me cause I would have screamed like a little girl! Well when I fell I managed to drag my right ankle over the chain ring and cut me bad enough to need three staples to close it up. |
With a forecast of storms, yesterday may not have been the best day to ride to work (hey, a 50% chance of rain means there's a 50% chance that it won't rain, right?) But that turned out to just be wishful thinking yesterday. The heavy thunderstorms hit here at 2:00, about an hour and a half before I get off work. At 2:30, my wife Rose sent me this text, "I'm at home. Do u want me to come get ur a$$?" LOL
The rain was moving east fast enough that I thought it might be mostly past by 3:30, but it started training more to the northeast, and rained for hours more in Fort Worth. But at least the worst of the lightning seemed to be past, so I decided to give the ride home a go. I made sure not to try and stop too fast anywhere, and made it home fine. As usual, the rain really wasn't that bad until I reached Crowley, then it was a downpour the rest of the way. The bike's fairing keeps the rain off my legs pretty well, and my hooded rain jacket keeps most of it off the rest of me. Still, after riding in this kind of downpour, my clothes were wet enough that I just left them hanging in the garage. The good news is that Rose still rejoices at the sight of a naked man walking into the house. Today's forecast is for just a 30% chance of storms, so maybe I'll make it home without blinding Rose. |
