With all of the tornadoes across the South yesterday and heading this way, I had no qualms about driving today. Even if tornadoes don't materialize here, winds are already gusting to 40-50 mph. Everyone is very gun shy about tornadoes here since we took a direct hit with extensive damage on April 16.

48f Really nice morning, the air was humid and smelled of rain, it was nearly light out and I was a 100% awake this morning which is rare:)

canyoneagle 04-28-11 07:45 AM

Almost ideal morning conditions. 36F/2C, clear skies. I left the house about 40 minutes earlier than usual, 6:15 AM or so, and really enjoyed the lighter traffic. I took an alternate route for my westward trek across the valley, which I only do if I leave early - too much traffic otherwise - the road has timed lights that are perfectly timed for a bike. If I stay within 19-23 MPH I can make it all the way across the south side of town without having to stop. Sweet!

0C, calm, sunny. This afternoon looks like it'll be wet.

Ride home into strong headwind again. Just beat the storms. The sky was about to open up just as I pulled up to my bldg.

Ride in this AM with a decent tailwind. Dark clouds around, but nothing came of it.

RT 04-28-11 09:31 AM

Eleventy-zillionth goathead flat this morning. Otherwise, great ride.

HardyWeinberg 04-28-11 09:54 AM

40F wet and sunny in places. Crazy childcare morning

monsterpile 04-28-11 11:22 AM

60F sunny which seems weird after the last 2 weeks. I had plenty of time to stop and make some adjustments along the way to the seat angle, seat height and handlebars. This bike is fitting really well and I had a nice ride.

caloso 04-28-11 12:07 PM

Hoping to make the Airport Ride tonight. There's going to be a hellacious crosswind, so before heading out I'll say the Roadie's Prayer:

Dear Lord, please don't let me get dropped. Amen.

Came within 20 feet of a fox twice in the last week. He didn't appear to be much concerned about my presence. Beautiful animal.

....pretty warm for february

FujiKid 04-28-11 01:39 PM

75 degrees and sunny.. I LOVE southern california. :P

cyclist5 04-28-11 01:55 PM

Mid 60's. 15mph headwind. Sunny. Still needed a cycling jacket.

zoltani 04-28-11 02:18 PM

Left the bike home, but had a nice walk in today, except that it was so cold and the wind was really whipping. Now I have to walk home after work and grab my bike before hitting up a show.

Temps in the 80's, mild tailwind... then I broke a spoke on the rear wheel. I rode it home anyway. I just finished replacing it, gonna be good for the charity ride Saturday.

Nice ride in this morning, looked like it would storm but never did. Stopped off for my stair intervals (takes 10 min) on the way in. On the way out it was blustery but warm so I decided to take the long way home and head over to Costco for some shopping. Fit what I could into my baskets, had probably 1800 calories in Costco pizza, and then headed home. Really enjoyed the detour and it was interesting to be on the MUP, like a freeway of bicycles and runners..

MVclyde 04-28-11 07:18 PM

Didn't ride today because of the tornado warnings and dentist appointment (I strategically rescheduled my dental appointment for today because of the weather).

Pretty warm today - 28 this afternoon, so I was pretty sweaty by the time I got home. Pretty strong headwind on a section of my route slowed me down considerably, as did having to wait 15 minutes for the ferry. Still a great day for riding - but then, isn't every day a great day for riding? :)

A tad chilly this morning at 48 F ( 8 C). My fingertips chilled a bit, but I am dressed for warm weather and I don't feel like going back to long anything. A fox came out from between some houses and walked onto the road about 100 ft in front of me. He got startled by my light, then froze, until something came out of the tree line and he dashed after it with some kiind of growl. It is starting to get lighter the last couple miles of my commute. A couple months of light and 10 months of darkness.

vtjim 04-29-11 05:51 AM

56F / 13C and some sun this morning. We've had some flooding in the area, like a lot of places. One low-lying road that I use was closed off so I detoured around it. Not a big deal. One neighborhood next to the bike path is totally under water, so cars are parked on the bike path to get to their homes. (Not blocking the path.) I'll give them a pass this time.

I reeled in one guy on a mountain bike (like me.) Funny how I could ride 15MPH and I caught him, but when he noticed me, he decided to go 16, and up to 20 in a couple places. :D Silly commuter racing.

33f Snowing, windy windy, I want real spring weather damn it!

Aeneas 04-29-11 07:03 AM

Most pleasant commute of the year so far! Mid 50s, sunny, little breeze. Had to stop at the dentist's office (I found this dentist because his office is on my route to work) but he had a cold, so rescheduled the app't.

First commute on my winter build project bike. A Kuwahara Carrera frame that I bought on Ebay that I fitted with Rando bars and VO Diagonale wheels shod with Vittoria Randoneur Cross 35mm tires. I'll go into more detail about the build elsewhere, but this bike is both FAST and comfortable! Or at least it feels fast to me! My positioning felt good and the bike just wanted to go! Pretty cool! I have a couple things to tidy up on the bike before her photo session, but I like this one!

tarwheel 04-29-11 07:11 AM

The weather is back to seasonable temps today after a week or so of above-normal temps. The temps during my morning commute were in the low 50s, which seemed downright chilly after the upper 60s and low 70s we've been having lately. I actually prefer the chillier temps, particularly in afternoons. It starts getting up into the 90s way too early around here and I would like to put it off as long as possible.

Fortunately we escaped the worst of the terrible storms that wracked Alabama and the rest of the Southeast. I drove yesterday because of the dire forecasts, but the weather wasn't that bad except it was extremely windy with gusts over 40 mph. I actually could have ridden my bike but it's wise to be cautious when dealing with severe weather.

EKW in DC 04-29-11 08:13 AM

Wind was less a headwind headed home last night than I expected... a welcome change from the rest of the week. Had a really good ride in this AM, too. A little cooler and drier than it has been in the mornings.

Scared to say it, lest I jynx myself somehow... AGAIN... but I should be building up my Surly LHT frame tomorrow. Looking fwd to its maiden commute Monday!
