Hey guys,

I've been lurking for a while now, but I think it's finally time for a first post. Naturally, it's about a bike I'm looking to buy. Until now, I've been riding an '03 Allez 24, but it's a bit too small for me. It's an entry level model, but it does the job quite well for my needs other than the size. I was thinking about going vintage for my next bike as I don't have a ton of money to spend, and I liked the idea of going back to steel, but I know I'd start to miss the brifters after a while and would end up upgrading to a set anyways. I mainly use my bike for commuting, leisure and a few longer rides (40-50 miles) every now and then.
Back to the point: There's a local 2000 Jamis Nova on craigslist for $320 that I find very interesting, both because it looks like a better fit, the versatility of the cyclocross and that it meets the rest of my criteria. From my searching, it appears everyone's very happy with their newer Jamis' but haven't been able to find any info or opinions of the 2000 model year, past what's on bikepedia. I obviously have to go check out the quality of the bike and test ride it, but if it's in good working order and condition, does the price point seem fair? Thanks for any help!

Around $300 for a used bike with brifters is usually a pretty good deal especially if it what you are looking for and it fits. Check it over carefully of course, but assuming its in good shape I would go for it if its within your price range. I would probabably check it out quick if I was you.

I think that version was made of Reynolds 631. $320 is a good price. Not out of the world bargain, but a fair price. It has to be in good working order though.

Go for it. I used a 2005 Jamis Nova as my commuter from Dec 2004 until I retired. Great bike.

Thats a great deal I think. I have a 2001 Nova and have done offroad trails, long road rides, and commuting for the past ~2 years. it has yet to have an issue (beyond tubes). very smooth riding and durable bike. i bought mine from ebay (barely used) for $450+shipping if i remember right. bikes don't/shouldnt depreciate as much as most people think IMO.

any idea how many miles are on it? stock?

Hey guys,

I went to check the bike out today and it fit like a glove, much better than my current ride. Past some minimal dirt, grime and the odd paint chip, it was in perfect working order and all stock except for the Michelin Tracer tires. Not even a frayed cable. Came with a basic sigma sport computer, fairly fresh bar tape, saddle bag and an extra tube. I walked away with it for $300 and am ready to get it freshened up and out on it's first ride! Thanks for the help!
