I found more dirty Mattresses on my way back from East Palo Alto.
|
I used to ride a Catrike and picked up LOTS of stuff because you don't have to unclip or get off the bike when you find something on the shoulder. I have found lots of tools. Sockets, pliers, wrenches, hex keys, extension cords, tie-down straps, life jackets (blown out of boats), rope, wire, cable. The V8 decal off someones car (that I put on the boom of my catrike for a while). The best thing I ever found was a 12 pack of cheap beer, unopened and scattered along the roadside where someone set it down on the toolbox of the truck and it vibrated off. I packed the 8 cans I could reach without getting off the trike in my side bag, and tho' it wasn't my brand, drank them all over the next few weeks. Free beer tastes GOOD, even if it is the cheap stuff.

I turned down a street in the northern tip of Manhattan to avoid stopping at a light (completely legal, btw), and I saw some money blowing across the street, about $25. It was windy so I figured I should continue riding downwind, which wasn't where I was going, and lo and behold I picked up another $16 over the next two blocks. I make enough money that it doesn't even faze me to pick up $41, but it was just the fact that I thought to follow the wind. Usually I just give found money to the first homeless person I see but I kept this just for the story.

I found my first bungie* (I spelled that wrong) cord the other day. I'm sure I'll find a use for it.
|
On the way back i found a flatten squirrel, it looks like its been there for some time.
|
I use to run over rattle snakes sunny themselves on the side of roads in the mountains of Southern California. Going up the mountain I would just go around them, coming down I was going to fast to swerve so I ran over them! I don't think they liked getting ran over.

Not on my commute, but during a pleasure jaunt I found someone's grandma.
Considering she looked about 627 years old, was wearing a very thin nightgown with a robe and one slipper, and I had passed a memory care nursing home a half-mile back it wasn't hard to return her to where she belonged. |
On the commute to work a squirrel pancake in a busy 4 way stop sign intersection with a couple of crows picking at it in between the traffic. On the way home the squirrel pancake was joined by a feathered black pudding pancake. :)

Today I found a rather large adult toy (anatomically correct, 3in dia., 1 foot long), I tossed it off the overpass I found it on into the blackberry bushes below.
|
I saw a used pregnancy test in the middle of a quiet suburban street. I didn't stop to see if it was positive or negative.
|
I was out on a joy ride just a week an a half ago and found two necklaces off the side of the trail. One was a stainless steel mens necklace and the other a (possibly) silver one with a pewter dragon pendant. I looked around to see if there was anyone around who may have lost them but found no one, not even in the river. They are likely not worth much but was neat to find while out having a good ride.

Had to post this nice little find I got today. Was traveling down the road when I happen to spot something out in the road, I look down and to see to my amazement that it was a caliper. I usually find common household tools and usually end up passing them up but that wasn't the case today, actually needed one of these in my tool kit.

My latest was a decent pair of linesman pliers a couple weeks ago.
|
In the last two weeks I have found a pocket knife and a controller for a telescope.
|
Three new-appearing (un-runover) radiator caps, miles aprt from each other, in a single 10 mile ride.

No doubt. Right now the guy that hit him's insurance company is probably claiming he was riding his bike without tires so they're not going to pay up...

This weirds me out. Any thought given to the idea that a cyclist may have been hit by a car and was rushed to the hospital? The bike may have been left to be picked up later. Even if the cyclist might never ride it again isn't that somewhere between stealing and tampering with evidence?

No Doubt. There's three things you don't touch: Strange dogs, snakes, and 1' long *****s you find on the side of the road.

Great day to take the bike with a rack (and a bungie) to go running some errands; found a 6 lb sledge hammer on the road side. Nice addition to my hammer selection :)
|
Actually I carry them. Good for changing a tire and putting your chain back on on the way to work. You can never really get your hands clean at work, but with the gloves you just pull them off and throw them away. And your hands arent black all day.
