hmm is the poll for total a day or each way? I picked 2-4 hours assuming its a day. i also think it also matters what time of environment youll be commuting through (ie MUP or rural or urban areas, etc). Right now my commute takes from 50-60 minutes and is 32mi RT across most of Philadelphia. I think my cut off on the roads im on now would be ~20mi or so a way but it most of the ride was MUP where my brain didnt have to be constantly scanning for cars pulling out, pedestrians crossing, parrlellel parked cars' dooring me, etc, i think i would put up with more miles. Though MUPs that are highly congested arent much fun either...

I assume you mean one way. I currently have a 45 minute nominal commute, and I sometimes extend it up to maybe an hour and 10 minutes just for fun. That's an 11 mile commute at shortest. I think if it started pushing 20 miles I'd have to cut back to not doing it every day. However, since the last 6 months (4 months of not riding, then tapering up and now back to riding every day) has shown me that without the riding my blood pressure goes up to where I need medication, and my weight starts climbing with no end in sight, it's not just fun, it's an investment in my health that will pay off in probably YEARS of improved quality of life down the road, and that's worth a lot.

From: Fairfax, VA commuting to Washington DC

Bikes: 2010 Kona Dew Drop (the daily driver),'07 Specialized Roubaix (the sports car), '99 ish Kona NuNu MTB (the SUV), Schwinn High Plains (circa 1992?) (the beater)

I too presumed one-way; otherwise I would have voted for 1-2 hours.. I can easily justify an hour each way, as pretty much all the alternatives are close enough to that. But much over an hour each way and it begins to impact the rest of my life too much.
