i am interest in buying a 2010 specialized hardrock, but the only problem that i have is that the bike doesnt have a chain guard (since my pants would sometimes get caught in the gear). so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what chain guard i should get, i have to buy it online, since my local bike store doesnt carry chain guards.

I've never considered a chain guard. If I wear long pants, I either roll up the right leg or grab a strap.

Cut the top off an old sock, slip over pants leg after folding neatly!

Had one of the fancy Velcro straps get in the front derailleur. First time
I tried it! The LBS refunded my money and repaired the derailleur.
Funny thing, I bought the strap while I was waiting to get a wheel trued.
When he turned the first spoke it twisted the rim tape and tube and the
tire blew out on the stand. They took care of that as well. I still had to
pay for the wheel service.

Whoa... you got the strap hooked up in the drivetrain and the bike shop fixed it all? That's crazy!

I made my own straps by buying some stretchable velcro [1] for cheap. I had a lot of trouble with the store-bought ones slipping down off of my pant leg, but the stretchy ones I made hold up fine. When I ride at night, I put a pair of the store-bought ones on over mine for the reflective value.

SKS Chainboard
I have SKS Chainboards on three of my bikes and I really like them. Light weight, easy to install, keeps my pants clean and unchewed.
Hebie Chainglider
Haven't tried the Hebie but it looks promising and there are some favorable reviews to be found on the net.
Civia chain guards can also be bought separately. Very attractive looking design.

Some of the lower priced mountain bikes come with a Plastic chainguard as part of the crankset,
they drop that for the higher priced groups, what is the largest chainring size, ?

44 and there are several to choose from.. 4 bolt?
have you asked to see what they can order from their distributors ?

To be honest, I made one from an oil change pan from Walmart, $2.

I had a pattern, the old one broke, but it took maybe half an hour
total to do it.

Why not just get some other bike that comes with a chainguard built in? Worked for me.
