**Confessions thread**
Well, I kinda stole this from the FG/SS section so hopefully it kicks off....
I only did it here cause I don't consider myself a full roadie I'm insecure about wearing bike shorts and to this day haven't worn any. I'm sad that none of my friends are avid bike riders to my extent. (Most i've done is 10miles). I convince myself that my ventura comp is all i'll need cause i'm only commuting to school with it. I race cars at stop lights |
I don't like riding in the rain and usually drive on rainy days (like today).
|
I cross intersections on red lights when I feel like it.
|
hah, I do both of the things you guys mention above.
|
Sometime I like to unleash my Airzound just because I want to.
|
I usually don't ride in the rain; I cross intersections on red when I (in my infinite and nearly infallible wisdom) deem it safe, and yet I tend to judge other cyclists who I see things that I (in my IanIW) deem unsafe.
I also secretly hope that some of the other cyclists I pass are admiring the view as I pass, even though intellectually I am SURE they aren't. |
My in-processing up in heaven will be lengthy once I arrive. An unfair amount headwind causes me to think bad things about those in charge of weather and occasionally utter naughty words directed at the same.

My confession: I bought Eggbeater 2's for one bike and 3's for another because I wanted to match the colors. |

 I thought I was the only one who did that.

The interesting part is I can tell they're trying to blow by me cause they'll pull beside me to match my speed and then gun it. They've just wasted some extra gas cause I'll always roll up to them at the stop lights :D. |
I round up to the nearest mph for relating my average MPH and round down to the nearest 5 minutes on my average route time ;)

I hate to patch tubes, I just keep buying new ones. I have a pile of about 20 on my workbench waiting to be patched.

Hi, I'm Michael and I enjoy riding in the rain.
I will also ride through lights if no cars are nearby. |
Told myself I'd never:
- use rack / panniers - install fenders - wear a helmet - buy a drop bar bike - use a mirror - install a bell - wear bike shorts Ok, so I did all that, but I'll definitely never get a high visibility vest ... really. Also sharrows remind me of the old SNES game F-Zero, and I'm disappointed when they don't give me a speed boost. |
At the very end of my commute to work, I have the option of riding the wrong way of a one-way street for one block, or riding 3 extra blocks to get to my building. I bunny hop onto the sidewalk of the one-way street, and get to work five minutes earlier.
I feel much better now. |
I mostly feel guilty about playing chicken w/ turning cars at intersections. And then I feel guilty that I feel guilty about it.
|
I sometimes race cars at stoplights or stop signs also.
I like to pass or at least stay ahead of someone on a fancy looking roadbike and lycra. I have been easily passed by riders on mountain bikes with knobby tires. I check Craigslist multiple times a day looking for the next deal. I have a hard time keeping a bike for too long. |
Sometimes I get lazy and catch a ride home with a coworker if he drove and I rode :)
I keep finding more bike parts and accessories I just HAVE to have :) |

All of the above, including this:
When being chased by a dog, I intentionally only go fast enough for them to barely keep up with me. I make it a contest to see how far from their house I can get them to chase me. Probably the only exercise the dog (and the owner) will get all week. It cracks me up when I hear the owners yelling at the dog to stop, too. Like the dog is all of a sudden trained and will listen? LOL. They deserve to go chase after scruffy. |
I rode home on the (closed) MUP, Monday, I didn't see the signs saying that it was closed due to surface saturation (it is an old rail bed).
|
When riding in heavy traffic that is slow moving (downtown), I'll muscle in on anybody trying to share the lane. I physically move toward them and stare, as if I were in a car. It's worked every time so far. I don't do this in fast-moving traffic.

So far no one has passed me while riding on my commute, be it lycra or casual teenager. ....Then again most of the them are always travelling opposite the direction i'm going -_-. |
I check the weather reports for wind speed / direction and drive on highly unfavorable wind days so I can maintain my stunning 15 mph bicycle commute average.
