how much does your commuter weigh?
How much does your commuter bike weigh once its all kitted up? That would be your bike + fenders + baskets.
I was wondering because mine is heavy (40lbs) and i was wondering what other commuters bikes weigh.

My geared commuter is 42# with its handlebar bag, ~37# w/o (that includes a bunch of other crap that I never take off like the pump, tool bag, coffee cup...)
Looking at a charity century I am thinking this might not be the bike for that ride. I don't know, I've never done a ride that long. It's the 7k feet of climbing that make me wonder about the extra weight. I only have ~800' of climbing on a commute day.

Too doggone much! I am up to the 42-45 lb. mark. As much as I enjoy riding a lighter bike, I like to consider the extra weight a bonus to my training.

With all the gear and bike about 28 pounds. The bike I use for commuting is a stock 85 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe, with fenders, pump, heavy flat resistant tires, a seat bag crammed full of junk in case of flats or repairs (contents list too extensive to go through here on this subject), handlebar bag full of what I need at work, water bottles and lights. I take a change of clothes for the week in the car when I drive in once a week (depending on weather sometimes I drive in more, in the winter I only drive in) and take the dirty clothes home.
Not sure why anyone would have 40 plus pounds of gear and bike to carry...or even 35 pounds! Even if I carried my own clothes inside my rear touring panniers (which I don't use commuting to work) I would still only be around 33 to 35 pounds.

Last time I was at the LBS, I took the liberty of setting it on their scale. It weights in at 45 lbs. I've been trying to reduce the weight but everytime I removed something, I add back something heavier.

With lights and tools, my bike is just under 25 pounds. Add 6.5 oz. for the rear fender when I slap it on for nasty conditions.

I'd say 40lb if I have my books and clothes in it for schooll. My bike weighs about 20lb on it's own. Add 2lb for the seat bag with stuff and another 6 for the pannier and bike lock and clothes.

I haven't weighed my primary commuter yet, but I'd guess its basic weight with racks, fenders, lights, etc (and none of my gear) would be in the 30 lb vicinity. I ride with 2 panniers in back, loaded with my day's clothes, shoes, spare tube, patch kit, pump, multi-tool, 15mm axle wrench, backpacker's first aid kit, wallet, keys, toiletries, etc. I'd guess both panniers check in at 15-20 pounds or so total, so my loaded commuter is about 45-50 pounds.
I can say that the bike does not feel that heavy when I ride.
My other commuter is probably 25 pounds as is, and I pack a single pannier for the front rack with less stuff, say 10-15 pounds max, so the loaded bike is 35-40 pounds.

My Surly weighs in right about 33lbs, the Moto weighs just under 18lbs but I have to wear a messenger bag to move anything bigger than a banana.

I have a number of regular commuters...
Just weighed the P20 with fenders, rack ,lights, pump, rear panniers, lock, and front bag with my usual gear and it curbs out at 42 pounds... I use this bike for my 100km commute, short tours, and centuries and never feel like I am riding a heavy bike and can maintain a nice cruising speed of 15-18 mph over longer distances. It has some very light wheels which really contributes to it's speediness.
The Moulden monster cross weighs less than 24 pounds with a rack and fenders... stripped nekkid it is a 22 pound bike.
My winter commuter / rain bike weighs 34 pounds with an internal 3 speed and dynahub.
Went on a 85 km ride last Saturday and rode back Monday and figure that I was pushing 60 pounds for total bike weight as I had 4 litres of water and my netbook, 2 days change of clothes, and all my usual crap... averaged 25kmh with some stiff crosswinds for the first 50km and with a little tailwind on the last leg covered the last 35 km in just over an hour.

My Trek Soho with fenders, rack, mirrors and center stand is 33 lb. It probably doubles in weight when I put my trunk bag with panniers on it. I carry 2 laptops to work.

Bikes: Custom commuter made from Civia Prospect frame, Raleigh Sports (1971), custom road bike from a steel 2003 Fuji Marseille frame, 29er SS MTB built up from a Vassago Jabberwocky frame, Surly Long Haul Trucker (customzed for fully loaded touring)
probably almost 40 pounds.
