Trek District or Earl for city riding?

Anybody commuting regularly on a Trek District? I found a couple reviews online but most seem to be test rides, wondering how they hold up over time. I'm thinking about buying one for riding around Seattle but the Trek Earl also looks appealing.

Bikes: 2006 Trek SL road bike with upright bars outfitted for commuting and a 2012 Trek Earl modified to be a bar bike.

I am interested in the question as well. Am thinking of getting an Earl and adding a SA 3 speed to it...
