I use a Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit mini u-lock around the seat tube, my rear wheel and a bicycle rack. I have a bikeregistry.com chain that goes around the front wheel, through the frame, and around another part of the bike rack. I've got a bikeregistry.com seat leash, too. I leave the u-lock and chain hooked to the bike rack. Bring my bike inside at night.
My setup is probably overkill for where I lock my bike up (and the bike I lock up...old beater trek road bike), but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The building where I park has had some bikes stolen recently. They were "locked up," but I'm willing to bet they were just cheap cable locks. I've looked around the racks and most people have cheap cable locks, many just lock the front wheel (with quick releases!) to the rack. Even the people that have u-locks use the cheaper ones and don't use them correctly (just around the front wheel, or just the frame, no wheel included). I even saw a guy the other day that had a cheap cable lock with the u-lock being used as the padlock not run through the frame.

Honestly, these are great and really, really cheap. I installed mine so the cable spirals around the seatpost very tightly, making it harder to cut -- many bolt/cable cutters can't cut very well right at the tip and there's definitely no room to get even a small diagonal plier tip in between the cable and the post.
Sure, if a thief thinks about it for a second he can loosen my seatpost clamp with an allen key and spin my saddle around to loosen the spiral, but I've done one more thing to slow him down. Also, most bike thieves don't like a puzzle.

the cable lock I wrap it around the front/top tube... just make sure it can't interfere with steering or brakes... but I also use a mini u-lock... and my cable lock doesn't have a "separate" lock, its built into the cable...
the u-lock... on the back around the seat / seat stay area...

After much reviews, and much research on the proper way to lock your bike and the proper locks needed,I went with these...
A 4ft,12 mm steel cable,a brinks high security padlock and a 4X9,15 mm Kryptonite U-lock.
Here is a video also that explains a how to lock your bike, but after watching this video and many like it,I asked myself how the hell do I carry these locks with me when I am not in full commuting mode?(With my rack, rear bag, etc)So watch the video, and answer these questions about your own bike...
How do you lock your bike?
What kind of lock(s) do you use?
How do you transport these lock(s)?
What grade do you think your bike would have gotten?
