Commuter bike options

First off, my commute will be around 32-34 miles round trip. I live in South Florida so it does rain quite a bit (Not to worried about that though). It will be all on road, bike lanes, just road lanes. I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor so I would like something not to heavy. Definitely want something with space to add a frame pump, 2 water bottle cages, already have a seat bag with patch kit, front and rear mount light, cheapo computer, 2 helmets (1mtb, 1 road), 3 pairs gloves. Alot of stuff from the bike I recently sold.

I originally thought about a Mountain bike, but it seems like it would be a lot more work vs a road bike/hybrid bike. Any suggestions? I would like to start as cheap as reliably possible (if that exists) and use the money I save from not driving my f150 to work to upgrade after a couple months.

I was looking at some old Raleigh road bikes with DT/ST shifters on them.

priced around $150-200. any suggestions?

I'm open to all suggestions. Also is there anything else I might need? that I don't already have listed?

What is your budget for the bike?

well if I can get away with spending $200 I won't complain. I was looking at a Raleigh Misceo for $499, LBS's do layaway but your kind of stuck with whats in their inventory.

For layaway, yes, but if you PIF they can order you what you want.

Would a inexpensive road bike like the raleigh make a decent commuter?

I ride a Kona Dew, and I love it. It's my commuter bike, but my commute (when I'm working) is only 4 miles round trip. That might grow to 9 miles.

Paid about $400 for my Dew, plus all the extras (lights, fenders, rack, etc.) It frequently shows up here on lists of good commuter bikes.

$400-$500 hybrids make very good commuters. If I had to do a 32-34 mile round trip commute, I'd still ride my Dew. I wouldn't need another bike for a longer ride.

I had at times wondered whether I should have gotten a higher end Kona commuter bike with disc brakes, but I've ridden plenty in the rain and V-brakes do just fine for me.

For something that long, I'd suggest a touring bike, but they won't fit in your projected budget unless you can (a) find a cheap, used one, and (b) it's a good one. You can easily blow $100 getting any bike repaired/rebuilt/fixed up at a bike shop with a competent mechanic...

Bikes: To many to list...

The link you provided had some good bikes for the price if they are really ready to ride. I would beware of them though the blue Raleigh looks like its been in a accident and has bent tubing.
