Not for a Black bear. I think that's about normal. You may be thinking of Brown bears (aka, Grizzly's), which are MUCH larger.

That trumps the big racoon that knocked my bf off his bike last summer. We were on a night ride. It ran out of the ditch and knocked his Crosscheck right out from underneath him. Grade 3 concussion, helmet cracked.

Lord have mercy! I grew up in the FL panhandle, and I had *no idea* it was a black bear habitat. I thought armadillos ruled the wilds.
Of greater interest to me, actually, is the news that someone voluntarily commutes by bicycle down there. When I was a kid it was generally assumed that any "utilitarian" cyclist one encountered on the roads was a DUI.
