Bike Thief Takedown
|
...nice.
They should have been a bit more assertive and held him for the police. |
Looks like he got away and kept his thieving tools to go rob someone else later.
If one of the honest citizens pepper prayed him, then the theif would have been stuck there, blind coughing and gagging until the police showed up. I always have a small can on me for personal protection and incidents like this. You can buy them for $3-5. |
If you sprayed him, he'd probably sue you for assault and win. Unless he threatened you with his knife, which he did do to the security guard.
They did catch him(or his bike anyway) because he was an idiot and couldn't unlock his own bike.

Wasted opportunity to have cross-checked him into that tree...

Interceptor, I like your little yellow sign,"Bicycling Against Oil Wars!" Yeah that and more of it!
I check the Portland stolen bike registry and my gosh at least 4 are stolen daily. I just think law enforcement should be doing more to curb the tide. It seems to be catching on like wild piggies making more wild piggies! 87,000 bikes stolen in London England last year. Man, this makes my blood boil! |
Glad they stopped it. But, yeah, I wish they would have held him down for the police.
Good to see a cyclist saving her bike. |
Haha. Here's that dude's final thoughts at night: I'm a thief fail and
I got tackled by a girl. |
slip-on vans, 3/4 length shorts, shaved head, old road bike, yep, that was hipster bait for sure.

Please do not post this as if it was some sort of victory for bicycle owners. Vigilante justice is not justice.
It's immediate, it's gratifying, it sends a message RIGHT THEN RIGHT THERE that this sort of crap isn't to be tolerated. Mind you, I have zero respect for the cops to ever be a force for good in my life. |

@ 5'9" and 220 lbs - I take down that POS thief and he is staying down... :)
|
It may or may not be justice, but its certainly more of a deterrent. As far as I'm concerned, when you walk up and start taking someone's property, I cant really find any sympathy for what may happen to you.
|
The reason bike theft, and other theft, is so rampant is that the punishment in most cases is laughable and the thieves know they can usually get away with it. Physical punishment is not legal (too bad) but works very well. If people knew that the consequences of their actions would be painful, they'd probably reconsider. I totally believe that physical punishment for theft should be brought back. Nothing like some good beating for stealing stuff.

The interesting thing for me was how quickly he was able to defeat the lock. I don't think there was a U-lock or heavy chain involved. Probably just a cheap cable lock.

I hope they were running the highest possible pressures in their guns, and that at least some of the paintballs were frozen solid. |
