That might be the case, except that if that is the design, then the design is a fail. I have no problem with protests, with political action, when it actually gets its point across, but it doesn't seem to be doing that here. Just making people mad isn't drawing attention to anything.

I suspect the corking circus was a result of backlash to Brian McGrory's piece in the Boston Globe two weeks ago: https://www.boston.com/news/local/mas..._bicycle_free/
I heard people commenting that driver antagonism increased in the days after it was published.
This is not the first time CM has circle-corked an intersection.

Ironically enough, riding Boston critical mass a few years ago for the first time was an inspiration for me to become involved in Boston bike advocacy.

If not, let's talk about that.
One thing I've learned is not to get my knickers in a twist over how other cyclists ride unless it is a direct danger to my safety, and not a perceived one. My point is that I can ride legally or not, some motorists are going to not like my being on the road regardless.

I even get an uptick in motorist aggression during the weeks prior to a heated state or national election, so what's the fuss about a few cyclists blocking an intersection 30 to 45 seconds, one inconsiderate or clueless motorist can gridlock an intersection for minutes.

I'm not too sure about other municipalities but here in Vancouver (or the entire GVRD) CM events are held on the last Friday of each month with the exact location, ie starting point, route, etc. kept under wraps until the latest practical time.

I was near the guy who got his saddle squished. about five seconds later, my bike bounced off the front of the Honda. we were not involved in the "corking" of the intersection. I actually chose to ride through, and wait on the side, b/c I had a distinct feeling that something stupid was about to happen. turns out that "something stupid" was getting hit while riding in the bike lane, not blocking the intersection.

to all the haters who are going to say/have said "young, dumb, privileged fixed gear kids"/"they deserved it," I suggest you remember to not grossly generalize a broad demographic of people. no one is impressed by an internet tough guy.

Boston is a beacon of automotive tolerance and we must take great pains not to disturb their equilibrium.

(seriously, I failed my driver's license test there 3 times because I couldn't summon enough road rage to convince the registry guy I was ready for the streets)

They are, but they also aren't out there pretending that they're doing the world a favor either. :-D

Critical Mass has just become an excuse for some cyclist to act out. It may have served a purpose at one time but with incidents like this they do more harm than good.

So you don't have a problem with illegal behavior, just some of the attitudes behind it? Breaking traffic laws is fine and dandy if you do it because you're enrtitled, but not if you think you're doing a good deed?

He never said that. The point is that being militant about it isn't going to help anybody.
