One thing I do to stay motivated is to make some of my frequently-used computer passwords something related to biking, so that way the biking sentiment gets pounded into my head probably dozens of times a day, even while I'm stuck in cubicle land.

My health.

Not paying the horribly corrupt MTA while saving money.

Not being squeezed onto the bus/subway with sick, smelly, annoying, inconsiderate, and possibly even dangerous people.

I always pack the night before.

I usually leave no later than 6:20am so that I can be ahead of the rush hour traffic and I am ready to work by 7:30 usually. This looks good to the higher ups and gives me a little more flex to my schedule if I need it.

Also, I love Sunrises. Certain times of year, the view from a bridge or a river can be gorgeous.

My motivation is all the cars on the road... knowing I'm not a part of that ridiculous rat race. Isn't something wrong with society when we're dependent upon giant, complicated hunks of metal that use scarce resources to operate just to stay alive? There's a use case for cars (hell, I'm an engineer, I work on complicated machines for a living), but commuting is not one of them.

Fitness, fresh air, and not needing coffee when I get to work are bonuses.

One and only reason: no stress. On bicycle, trafic jam is nothing to me (i go between cars, or on sidewalk). If there is no traffic and it is safe, I can run red lights - no problem. No worry about parking, speeding tickets etc.

Since public transport is free for me, saving money is not an issue.

Biking is also fun - alway exciting. You must be aware of careless drivers trying to run you over. You are slow enough to have a nice look at all the nice countryside (and girls ).

It is also fast: my town has no hills. Any route below 10 km is faster with a bicycle, than a car or bus (traffic jams).
