Another bike shopping thread!

Time to replace my 20-yr-old beater and I'm leaning toward a CX bike. My favorite LBS carries Specialized so I called them to see if they had any Tricross in stock in 58cm. They called back a week later and said they ordered it for me and I can test ride with no obligation. I ride it, like it, then ask for the bottom line. List price on the 2012 model (which is what they ordered) is $990.00 according to the Specialized site. They quoted me $750.00

Kona Jake is the other model I was going to test ride, but that LBS sticks fairly close to MSRP and I'm not that thrilled with the 2012 color scheme (white saddle / bar tape?).

Is this too good a deal to pass up? I have yet to find another source willing to lop nearly 25% off MSRP on a 2012 model they had to order just so I could test ride it (with no obligation). My gut feeling is I've struck gold...

Today I took the day off to hit 4 other LBS's nearby. One had a new '09 Kona Dew Drop in my size. It comes with BB7 discs which are a nice touch. Close-out price of $700.00 compares nicely to the '12 Tricross I rode a couple weeks ago offered at $750.00. Going to ride the Tricross again to see which feels better.

I like the discs, but thats me.

I wouldn't worry about the year of the bike.
Buy the one that feels best to you!
