stem mounting lights

another thread about lights? yes of course =)

I'd like to keep my handle bar free so I need some help in exploring options.
I'd like to mount the light on the vertical section of the road quill stem (or on the top, but it's an odd solution) and I wonder if the brackets included with Cateye (or any other good light) are able to embrace securely that part of stem (sure I'll lack all the vertical orientation options).

I ride in the dark of countryside paved roads, so sometimes it's useful not to be seen only.

Please excuse my english,
please excuse my hipsterness
(yes I am Knog bull frog user :)

Thanks

If you use a threadless headset you could try one of these from Paul Components (click on pic for link):
