ReCycling Reflective Sidewalls...

For those who don't know about them, reflective sidewall tires(tyres) are great for those of use who commute at night.

What many don't realize is that the reflective material is often removable... (sorry about the lousy photograph)

Find the edge where the ends overlap each other, and using a fingernail or tool, peel it off.

I'm planning on using my strips for fun projects that I want to be visible at night (say the fattest "stick figure" on a bike during a night ride), or the streamers that I added for old times' sake.

I've also been known to add it to my coats (but my current one already has good visibility).

Does anyone know if the 3M Reflective Tape that comes in 1" x 36" rolls would stick and stay stuck to a tire? I'd like to add reflective sidewalls to a few sets of tires that I'll be using to commute in the fall / winter.

My rear michelin city tire has reflective sidewalls.

I did not know that I might be able to remove the reflective material, thanks.

I ride pre dawn, and soon after november, post sunset.

I recently purchased a BikeGlow in blue. It's awesome.

Be seen or be squashed.

I'd say no, it won't. Your best bet is to buy new tires for the fall/winter commute.

I use soap and water, anything else with a strong vapor smell (alcohol, or other solvent), and you risking damage to the tire.

I just hope you're not a toothless old grishnak trying to frighten us with your roar {; - )
