Specialized bike?

Hi all, i have been searching for a bike that i can use on the road for commuting and on trails. I do around 30miles per week. And i only have a budget of £200 max. so a decent brand new bike is probably out the window? I have found a second hand specialized bike for sale for £175. I took it for a test drive and found it was very smooth and felt strong. nice ride. I did some research on the model and found out it is a 1998 (i think model.) I'm not sure if £175 is a good price for this bike? any advise?

Cannot speak on the condition , remotely,
Specialized, its a brand name. one of many , California Company,
Asian factories supply their warehouses..
you already got it , enjoy ,, probably needs mudguards..
relative value depends on the whole component pick list..
a fairly large fellow you are from the size of the bike,
if it's adjusted to be ridden by you ..

you guys have higher prices , due to taxes for things like the NHS,

rather than just left to die on the street, which happens a lot in the US.

Snarky political comments aside, that's a pretty nice bike. I can't tell if it's a Rockhopper or possibly a hardrock. both are decent lower-end Specialized Mountain bikes. I have a rockhopper from the early 90's. The price seems a bit on the high side compared to what used ones are going for over here, but it is a nice bike. If it's in good shape & you like the ride, I'd still get it (unless you see a lot of those types of bikes on craigslist or wherever you are looking).
