SlimRider, what you did was a good idea. It would be worth me pay someone five bucks to watch my bike. Would I worry my bike wouldn't be there when I got back, maybe a little, but not much. I believe most people in this world are good people, only a very small percentage would actually steal your bike. So the risk is small, it would be a risk I am willing to take.

Yes! I guess we share the same philosophy, Blakcloud. I really didn't think about the possibility of the kid stealing the bike until after I sat down for a few seconds in the restroom. It was then that I began to lament the whole idea of trusting the kid so much. OTOH- The kid looked fairly harmless. I mean somehow he just looked like you could trust him. He was a black kid too! When I returned, he even told me that I didn't really have to pay him! I therefore, doubled his salary and gave him ten bucks instead of the original five promised. - Slim :) |
I would have leaned my bike against the wall outside the bathroom, took 5 seconds to put my u-lock through the back wheel and frame, and went to pee. If anybody took it they'd be within running distance.

Because of having my gall bladder removed, I occasionally have diarrhea if I am not careful with my pre-ride diet and as a result, I don't eat before my 45min commute. I have had some orange juice to drink and even that can cause me problems at times.
Bathroom issues are always at the top of my list of concerns when I go for a longer ride such as the 60km route I sometimes enjoy. However, the 62km route to the cottage included 30km on dirt roads with lots of hiding spots in the bushes so as long as I have made it to that road, I can relax but the first 32km through the city and on the minor highway has to be considered before I head out. I was planning on a 95km ride to a provincial park this summer but plans changed so I couldn't do it. However, it was a concern, partly because it would have been the longest continuous ride but moreso because of bathroom concerns. However, does anyone have stomach issues like myself and also do long rides such as touring or fitness rides? Does the stomach hold off on processing while exercising? |

You have been "lost" since offering anybody (especially a stranger whose race raised issues for you) $5 to watch your bike instead of locking up for a potty break.
Then.... What was the Jane Fonda comment all about?............. Also, there were other people standing around, he just looked more honest, to me...It's not like I didn't have a choice! Looks like I made the right choice, too! - Slim :) |
