Basic laid back bike for commuting

I'm between a new Windsor Oxford, new Schwinn Coffee or a used Swobo Otis from a coworker. I'm trying to stay under $300 and 3 to 8 gears. Any opinions?

It depends which bike fits better. Bicycle fit can make a huge difference in riding comfort and performance.

Personally I think the windsor oxford looks pretty damn cool....but I've ridden or seen one in person.

That Windsor Oxford looks just like my Trek Belleville, minus a few add-ons. The 3 speed is nice for flat terrain, but not that nice if you have hills. I LOVE the IGH (internally geared hub) and will never own another derailleur based bicycle.

I vote for the Windsor Oxford

PS.

I'll always vote for chromoly steel frames over hi-tensile and aluminum.

This is more laid back than either of your choices.
